NBC has delayed the midseason premieres of 'Chicago Med', 'Chicago PD', and 'Chicago Fire', due to continuing coverage of the riot at Capitol by pro-Trump supporters as the Senate convened to certify the election results that would officially name former Vice President Joe Biden as the next President of the United States.

Protesters loyal to outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, and forced lawmakers into hiding just hours after Trump held a rally in Washington DC. According to the Associated Press, elected representatives were forced to crouch under desks and don gas masks as police attempted to barricade the building. However, protesters were able to storm the building. One woman was shot and killed inside the Capitol. The Capitol was later declared safe and will resume the constitutionally mandated count of the election results from the states.

When will 'Chicago Med' Episode 3 air?

'Chicago Med' was scheduled to return on January 6 with new episodes, however, due to the protests and the ongoing coverage of the incident by NBC, the midseason returns of all three 'Chicago' shows will be delayed. NBC's official Twitter account wrote, "Tonight on NBC: Continuing coverage from NBC News. Originally scheduled episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will air next week."

It is likely that 'Chicago Med' will instead return with Episode 3 of Season 6 next week on Wednesday, January 13, at 8/7c.

What to expect from Episode 3?

The official synopsis for Season 6 Episode 3 of 'Chicago Med' states: "Dr Charles and April team up to take on a mysterious patient in the ED. Dr Halstead is forced to make a life-or-death decision for one of his trial patients. Dr Marcel is confronted by his past when a former acquaintance is brought into the ED."

The show will continue to cover the recent development of Dr Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) becoming the head of the emergency department, a move that upset Dr Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) who expected the job for himself. Viewers can expect a continuation of that tiff as Halstead becomes involved in a clinical trial which may lead to more power clashes between the two men. Meanwhile, Ethan may also use his position to force his former girlfriend, nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) off the Covid-19 response team where she has been continuously working.

'Chicago Med' returns to NBC with new episodes this Wednesday, January 13, at 8/7c.
