This week's episode of 'Chicago Fire' opens with 81 getting a new and shiny firetruck but the admiration doesn't go on for long as the squad is called out to respond to a house fire.

The tenants of the house are an old couple and the man is reluctant to leave without finding his wife. However, the firefighters assure him that they will find his wife. Both the man and the woman are rushed to the hospital later.

Later, while firefighter, Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and paramedic Sylvie Brett are talking, they decide to check on the couple. They meet the man first, who is alright and tells them they just moved to Chicago since his wife grew up in the city and loved it.

Brett and Casey also learn that the couple has no other family or friends. The man asks about his cat and Casey assures him that cats usually find their way out of house fires. Unfortunately, when Brett and Casey go to check on the wife, they find out that she is dead.

When Dr Natalie Manning tells them that no one has come to check in on the old man, Brett and Casey feel dejected. When they end their shifts, Brett tells Casey that she wants to go find the old man's cat, and Casey tells her that he will join her.

Brett and Casey also end up having a heart-to-heart. Brett tells him that her birth mother is trying to reach out to her, but Brett believes that her birth mother gave up her right to meet Brett on her agenda.

When Casey gives Brett the nicest compliment — that if anyone can handle a bomb dropped in her lap, it's Brett — both of them turn when they hear a cat's meow. Brett and Casey then take the cat to the old man.

Later, Brett uses Casey's press contacts from his alderman days so that the old man is not alone at his wife's funeral. In one of the finest moments on this show, everyone from the episode (except Jerry Gorsch, of course) including Firehouse 51 and those from a different rescue mission turn up at the funeral as Brett tells the old man, "Chicago shows up for each other."

One fan wrote, "What a tremendous episode of #ChicagoFire. The end brought legit tears," while another tweeted, "Oh man the last scene you guys killed me I’ve been emotionality begin with this put me over the top. (sic)" Another viewer wrote, "Damn it @NBCChicagoFire got my eyes tearing up. That was a kind and sweet gesture for all to show up at the funeral."

Showrunner Derek Haas tweeted about the episode, "I'm always so impressed by the people of Chicago. At restaurants, in the stores, out on the streets, in the schools, they go out of their way to make you feel like you're part of their city. This episode was a thank you to them."

"Brettsey" fans may not have gotten the moment they wished for. However, the episode brought in some touching moments for the potential couple, slowly burning to what could be a really bright star.

'Chicago Fire' airs on Wednesday nights on NBC.
