'Chicago Fire' Season 8 Episode 10: In a double win for fans, Severide survives and even returns to Firehouse 51
When 'Chicago Fire' left for the midseason break in November 2019, the NBC show left us with a major cliffhanger. Lt Kelly Severide — who had been transferred to the Office of Fire Investigations (OFI) earlier this season — was in danger as he confronted a serial arsonist.
With a flare in his hand, the culprit threatened Severide and unfortunately, a huge fire broke out. Severide managed to escape but returned to help rescue the culprit as well. When the latter asked him why he came back, Severide said, "because I'm a firefighter".
This, in essence, is one of the major reasons we have missed him at Firehouse 51 — where he has been since the show first premiered in 2012. It's also his camaraderie with his teammates at 51 that we have missed a lot.
Severide's act of bravery is rewarded and it is something that we've all wanted for some time. His Captain at OFI approves his transfer back to Firehouse 51. Though the Captain was initially antagonistic towards Severide, he has warmed up to him now.
Of course, Severide's return to Firehouse 51 is not without hiccups, with his former colleague at OFI, Lt Wendy Seger, trying to get more cases to Severide's attention. While Severide's girlfriend Stella Kidd is happy that he is back at 51, she cannot help but notice Seger's attention.
Severide and Kidd talk it out and he finally rejects Seger's offer to work on more cases with her. This shows that the 'Stellaride' relationship has reached a new height — not only do they trust each other but they are also willing to let things go for the sake of their relationship.
Though we are happy that Severide will be back at 51, we hope this is not the last time we see him involved in fire investigations. It's a unique ability that Severide has showcased, and we hope these skills are put to use while he is busy being a firefighter with his old teammates.
'Chicago Fire' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
