Cher 'pleaded' with mom Georgia Holt to move in with her due to deteriorating health before death
MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: Cher urged her mother Georgia Holt to move in with her before the 96-year-old died as she was extremely concerned about her mother's deteriorating health. Cher disclosed on December 10, 2022, that her mother had died just a few months after a terrifying case of pneumonia.
However, years before she passed away, sources learned that Cher, 76, had been calling and visiting Holt, who lived near her mansion, in an effort to persuade her to leave her home and move in with her. "Cher doesn't know what to do with herself when they're apart five minutes," one insider spilled in 2020, adding, "They're more best friends than mother and daughter. Most worrisome to Cher is that Georgia recently had surgery and can't get around like before, and stubbornly refused to take her meds."

The source said Cher had been "pleading with Georgia to move into her mansion, as reported by RadarOnline. "That way, she can keep an eye on her and Cher won't be so lonesome," the source added. The old matriarch, who was a former actress and singer like her daughter, had been residing on her own property, as of two years ago. Before she fell ill, Georgia was a frequent visitor at Cher's huge Moroccan-style mansion in Malibu, California. "Cher got used to seeing Georgia in her favorite chair, watching quiz shows or sharing meals with the friends who would come and go, but that hasn't happened in a while," claimed the insider.
The friend also disclosed that two years ago, Cher's mother had started showing signs that she was slowing down. "Even though Georgia is nearby in her own house, Cher would feel a whole lot better if she would come and live with her. She's got lots of rooms and they could hang out like they used to and watch old movies," the insider said. "The hard part is convincing Georgia — because she's really become averse to change and likes her own schedule. But Cher can't and won't give up trying."
Cher broke the devastating news that her mother had passed away over the weekend. "Mom is gone," she tweeted. Condolence poured in from her fans and other famous personalities, including Hillary Clinton. “[T]he loss of your mom is just devastating,” tweeted 'Community' actress Yvette Nicole Brown. adding, “May your hero #RIP.” Holt's cause of death has not been determined.

Cher has long praised her mother and talked about the close relationship the two of them had. Cher's fans have become accustomed to receiving regular updates from the singer on her mother's condition and activities. Cher recalled her mother and her mother's friends as being "so beautiful" when she was a young girl. “When they walked into the room, everything stopped. She was also an amazing dresser. We based the costumes in ‘Mermaids’ on pictures of her from the ’50s,” Cher said of her mom in an interview with People in 2013. “She never gave me and my sister advice because, truthfully, she knew we’d never take it,” Cher said. “Instead, we learned about life by listening to her talk about the things she did wrong and the things she did right,” the singer added.
