The 76-year-old veteran singer, who is usually an avid social media user, returned to Twitter after a two-day break to share a brief tweet that appeared to confirm her mother’s death. "Mom is gone," penned the 'Believe' hitmaker, followed by a frowning emoji. However, Cher did not reveal any further information or the cause of her death.

The heartbreaking news came just months after Cher revealed that Georgia had been hospitalized with pneumonia and had been suffering from recurring health issues. "Sorry I’ve Been MIA. Mom’s Been Sick Off & On. She Just Got Out Of Hosp. She Had Pneumonia. She’s Getting Better," Cher wrote on Twitter in September this year. The following day, she updated her followers that her mom was back home. "Home is the best medicine for her... she's getting better," she wrote.
After appearing to confirm Holt’s death, Cher was inundated with messages of support and tributes from admirers. “It is often hard to find the right words at a time like this. May you find peace, comfort, and all the love you need in the days to come,” wrote one user. “Sorry for your loss Cher, we all know how much she meant to you. My heart goes to you today. An insider earlier told Entertainment Weekly, "Cher’s worried about her mother’s health. She’s in her 90’s now and [Cher] does not want to be far from her." "Her mother is not deathly ill, but is somewhat fragile," the insider added.
Holt herself was an actress, songwriter, and model, who encouraged Cher to follow her steps into show business. She started her career at the age of 6 by performing on an Oklahoma City radio station and then moved on to joining bandleader Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys by age 10. She also appeared in a slew of TV shows including ‘I Love Lucy’ and ‘The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet’.

The documentary provides a peek into Holt’s childhood in Arkansas, her six marriages, and her singing and acting career in Los Angeles as she struggled to support her daughter. In a statement released to EW.com at the time of the documentary, Cher said, "My mom is exactly like Rocky. She never gives up!" as per Daily Mail.
