LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 2006 blockbuster 'The Holiday' is finally getting a sequel -- and Cameron Diaz has agreed to join the original cast for the feel-good rom-com that has been a festive favorite for years.

The original box-office hit saw Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law come together to create timeless magic on the big screen nearly 17 years ago. Fans were left wondering what would have transpired between the characters Amanda (Cameron) and Graham (Jude), and Iris (Kate) and Miles (Jack) all these years on. However, they will have to wait no more as reports suggest that the cast of the original film will reunite to make a sequel next year.

A source with knowledge told The Sun that Cameron, 50, Kate, 47, Jude, 49, and Jack, 53, have all signed up to start filming the hit movie sequel. "The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the U.K. and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board," the insider told the newspaper. "It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world – it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up. It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas."

'The Holiday' tells the story of two women who swap homes during Christmas. Iris stays in Amanda's posh Los Angeles pad while Amanda retreats to Iris' country home. While both are looking to unwind after undergoing bad breakups, they end up falling in love in one another's vastly different worlds. Amanda finds love with Iris' brother Graham and Iris falls for Amanda's colleague Miles.

The film was made with a budget of approximately $86 million but went on to gross over $245 million at the box office. It has now become a seasonal staple and the cottage depicted as Iris' English abode has reportedly become quite the attraction for fans. However, one major element of the movie will be unavailable in the sequel. Eli Wallach, who played the elderly screenwriter Arthur Abbott, died of natural causes in 2014 at the age of 98. The veteran actor was 90 when The Holiday came out in 2006 but continued to work right up to 2010.

The latest update comes shortly after Diaz revealed how she walked back her decision to retire from acting. The actress was apparently convinced by Jamie Foxx to return to the silver screen and star alongside him in the action-comedy 'Back In Action', which began filming at the end of September this year. The 54-year-old actor and comedian is said to have brought in Tom Brady to persuade the actress to come out of retirement.

The prospective release date for 'Back In Action' is yet to be announced at this time. Cameron revealed her decision to retire after starring in the 2014 remake of 'Annie'. She said at the time that she wanted to take a step back and "take a look at what the whole picture looks like for me," according to the Daily Mail.
