PARK CITY, UTAH: Brooke Shields revealed she was sexually abused by a significant Hollywood executive over 30 years ago, yet she remained silent throughout. She remembers thinking at the moment, "No one is going to believe me. People weren't believing those stories back then. I thought I would never work again." It's "a miracle," as per Brooke Shields, that she "survived" being raped while she was in her 20s by the Hollywood executive.

'People' magazine features Shields on this Friday's 'People Exclusive' cover. Shields captioned the image, "No one gets to own my truth but me Thank you to @people for this cover!! On newsstands this Friday but you can read it online now. #PrettyBaby."

Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby

In the upcoming two-part documentary 'Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby', which will air on Hulu starting on April 3, she tells the particular story of her being raped 30 years ago. It is an in-depth look into the life of this extraordinary young woman, whose sexualized performances in movies like 'Pretty Baby' (in which she played a child prostitute) and 'The Blue Lagoon' made her the focus of intrigue, controversy, and a phenomenon in pop culture.

It is also a story on the virtue of speaking the truth. "Doing the documentary, you see it all together, and it's a miracle that I survived," the 57-year-old actress says in this week's issue of People. She recalls that it was the "lowest point of my career" at the time because she had just graduated from Princeton University and was struggling to find a job. The Hollywood executive urged her to summon a cab from his hotel room after dinner ("I thought I was getting a movie, a job"). He assaulted her there. She recalls in the documentary, "I didn't fight. I just froze."

She is now sharing her story "with the hopes of helping people not feel alone," she claims. "Everybody processes their own trauma on a different timeline. I want to be an advocate for women to be able to speak their truth." Shields also gets candid about child stardom, her alcoholic mother, and the sexual assault she kept secret for decades.

'Proud of you Brooke!'

Fans and followers on Instagram were elated over the announcement of Shields featuring on People. "Proud of you Brooke!" exclaimed Ali Wentworth. Another fan commented, "You were my role model growing up from your first book on beauty to your days at Princeton I love you for being your authentic self … thank you for sharing your story and your struggles" "Go Brooke!" chimed in Holly Robinson Peete.

Another fan said, "I appreciate you so much Brooke. As a child of the 80s you were someone I looked up to. When you graduated Princeton you told us girls we could be pretty, talented AND smart. Now, all these years later you're showing us again what it is to lead by example. We all have our stories and some of them need to be heard, especially by those who were part of them." "I was lucky enough to see your wonderful documentary at the Sundance Film Festival! It was amazing. Thank you for sharing!" wrote another.
