Blackpink, deemed as the biggest K-pop girl group in the world will be coming to amp up the new year with a brand new online live concert, ‘The Show’, on January 31. The first-ever virtual concert of the K-pop sensation promises to pack quite a few surprising performances.

‘The Show’, which was supposed to be held on December 27 initially, was canceled due to Covid worries as YG Entertainment put out a statement saying that the safety of the K-pop stars was the most important thing for them. With a new date on the horizon, excitement for ‘The Show’ has been only surging upwards as blinks are flooding social media sites in anticipation of the mega concert and how grand it will be.

Blackpink had a grand 2020 as they dominated the world music charts. In October, the group reached 65 to 1 in Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time to become the top musical act in the US due to the success of the group's debut full-length ‘The Album’. The K-pop group is also reportedly the third K-pop act to top the Artist 100, following BTS and SuperM. Blackpink's third single ‘Lovesick Girls’ from ‘The Album’ also launched at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart. Their recent collaboration with Selena Gomez, ‘Ice Cream’, debuted at No. 13 on Billboard Hot 100 while ‘Lovesick Girls’ launched at No 59.

Concept

‘The Show’ will feature a brand new initiative of YG Entertainment called ‘The Palm Stage’ which will make up for the lack of a live audience with new emerging technology, so that fans can get the feel of a concert from the comfort of their couch. In a partnership with YouTube music, ‘The Show’ will likely bring some of the most iconic tracks of Blackpink with a re-imagined rendition and more.

YG Entertainment stated, “BLACKPINK's'THE SHOW' concert title is very intuitive and intense. Blackpink also named their first full-length album 'THE ALBUM' and has compiled its unrivaled music capabilities since its debut in 2016. It is paying attention to what kind of fantastic stage to show through 'THE SHOW'.”

The entertainment mogul also noted, “As it is the first livestream concert partnership with YouTube Music and a large project prepared by YG for a long time, the interest of global fans is expected to be explosive. YG recently launched 'PALM STAGE', a concert brand suitable for changed times, with Blackpink as the first runner. It will be interesting to see how the concert know-how, one of YG's strengths, will be vividly expressed and delivered in the hands of the audience.”

The statement also talked about Blakpink’s last global tour: “It has been about 1 year and 5 months after the world tour successfully ended last year with 32 performances in 23 cities on 4 continents for Blackpink to meet fans around the world through concerts. Blackpink enthralled fans with the skills and aura of a global top girl group at every performance.”
