'Blackbird' is a remake of the Danish film titled 'Silent Heart' and had premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Septemeber 6, 2019. It is now set to make its release by Screen Media Films this year. Here is all you need to know about drama surrounding the death of a loved one due to ALS.

'Blackbird' will release on September 18, 2020.

Plot

The synopsis reads, "Lily (Susan Sarandon) and Paul (Sam Neill) summon their loved ones to their beach house for one final gathering after Lily decides to end her long battle with ALS. The couple is planning a loving weekend complete with holiday traditions, but the mood becomes strained when unresolved issues surface between Lily and her daughters Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska). Joining the collective farewell are Lily’s son-in-law (Rainn Wilson), her lifelong friend (Lindsay Duncan), daughter’s partner (Bex Taylor-Klaus) and grandson (Anson Boon). Her story is ultimately one of hope, love and a celebration of life."

 Sarandon started her career with a pivotal role in the controversial 1970 feature 'Joe', she followed it up with the 1975 camp horror 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and then came 1980 's 'Atlantic City' which earned her first Oscar nomination. 1986 hit 'The Witches of Eastwick' brought her considerable attention, and then in 1988 she delivered a breakthrough performance in Ron Shelton's hit baseball comedy 'Bull Durham'. In 1989, 'Thelma and Louise', a much-discussed distaff road movie which became among the year's biggest hits and won her another Oscar nod. 1995's 'Dead Man Walking' was the first movie she won an Oscar for.

Besides her role as Rose Dewitt Bukater in 'Titanic' (1997), Winslet is known for her roles as Clementine Kruczynski in 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' (2004), April Wheeler from 'Revolutionary road' and Marianne Dashwood from 'Sense and Sensibility' (1995). Her recent works include 'Birds of a Feather' (2019), 'Moominvalley' (2019-2020), 'Ammonite' (2020), and 'Black Beauty' (2020). Her release titled 'Naya Legend of the Golden Dolphin' (2022) where she voices Cupid is in post-production and she is filming two other releases titled 'Mare of Easttown' and 'Avatar 2.'

Wasikowska is known for her roles as Alice Kingsleigh in 'Alice in Wonderland' (2010), India Stoker from 'Stoker' (2013), Edith Cushing from 'Crimson Peak' and Joni from 'The Kids Are All Right' (2010). Her other recent and notable works include 'The Man with the Iron Heart' (2017), 'Piercing' (2018), 'Damsel' (2018), 'Black Comedy' (2018), 'Judy and Punch' (2019) and the upcoming 'The Devil All The Time' (2020). She has a release titled 'Bergman Island' that is set to release in 2021 and is in post-production.

Other cast members include Sam Neill as Paul, Rainn Wilson as Michael, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Chris, Lindsay Duncan as Elizabeth and Anson Boon as Jonathan.
