Contains possible spoilers for 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'

Letitia Wright's Shuri might be the Black Panther in 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', but should the sequel spawn more installments, there might be a new character donning the suit. While Marvel Studios has been firm on their decision to not recast T'Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman), they did take the step of handing over the mantle to Shuri, and that gives the freedom for the filmmakers in the future to perhaps see someone new replace Shuri.

The movie's potential plot has already been leaked on Reddit, and one of the theories doing the rounds is the introduction of T'Challa's son. In the final scene of the film, Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) reportedly opens up about having a child with the late king, and that perhaps sets the tone of Marvel passing over to the child when he/she grows up. The Wakandan custom was distinctly outlined by Boseman's character in 'Captain America: Civil War' where he says, "The Black Panther has been the protector of Wakanda for generations. A mantle passed from warrior to warrior."

Is Shuri the new Black Panther in 'Wakanda Forever'?

Naturally, this suggests that the new Black Panther will be T'Challa and Nakia's child, but until then, it's safe to assume that Shuri will indeed be Wakanda's protector. The film's leaked storyline also adds that M'Baku (Winston Duke) will be the king of Wakanda as the movie comes to an end where Shuri defeats Namor (Tenoch Huerta).

The official synopsis reads, "In Marvel Studios 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,' Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda."

'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' releases November 11 in the US.
