Billboard Music Awards 2021: The Weeknd wins Top Male Artist, says he's not wearing THAT red suit anymore
UPDATE: The pop star nominated for a whopping 16 Billboard Music Awards has won eight - so far. The Weeknd was named top male artist, top R&B artist and top Hot 100 artist.

The much-awaited 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) are finally here where some of the top global artists will be honored for their work while the fans will also get to enjoy Live performances of artists like Pink, H.ER., BTS and others. The coveted award ceremony is being hosted by Nick Jonas for the very first time.
Speaking of award nominations, The Weeknd scored the maximum nods with 16 winning Top Male Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Radio Song, and Top R&B Song before the Live show aired on NBC. The talented crooner was one of the first one to hit the stage when the show went Live as he accepted the renowned Top Hot 100 Artist award. The singer-songwriter looked dapper in a monochrome outfit.

Gone is the signature style
For the entire 2020, The Weeknd remained in the fictional character of his mega-hit album ‘After Hours’. Whenever the singer made a public appearance, he always donned his red suit along with a bruised face which almost became his signature style. However, he was more than happy to get rid of the red suit finally. Well, that’s what the singer said himself when he landed on the stage to accept his Top Hot 100 Artist. Speaking to the audience, he quipped, “I'd like to thank god, I don't have to wear that red suit anymore.”

‘Lol that Red suits sucks’
Social media users were quick to react to The Weekend’s cheesy statement while others congratulated him for the big award. One stated, “My two favorites @theweeknd and @BTS_twt. My heart is so happy rn.” Another shared, “Lol that Red suits sucks. Abel #BBMAs” One individual tweeted, “@theweeknd says f**k the red suit #bbmas” whereas, the next one asserted, “The Weekend said red suit? I don't know him anymore.” Another congratulated the singer and said, “Wow congratulations to @theweeknd as he is the #BBMAs Top Hot 100 Artist! 2021 has been a big year for him so far!”

Rapper DaBaby, who gave several hits in 2020 has earned 11 nods. Pop Smoke and Juice WRLD also earned multiple posthumous nominations sitting at the third position with 10 and 7 nods respectively. The controversial country musician Morgan Wallen has also got six nominations this year.
The BBMAs are currently Live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on NBC. The award ceremony started at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT.
