'Big Mouth' season 3 will see our favorite teens return to tackle puberty, but fans hope the series takes a new turn

At the end of the second season, Connie, the Hormone Monstress voiced by Maya Rudolph becomes Nick's Hormone Monstress. Where does the story go from here?

Netflix finally gave us what we wanted – and in a "when it rains, it pours" style, the streaming service has renewed the animated comedy 'Big Mouth' for three seasons as part of a multi-year deal with the newly-formed animation company Brutus Pink. The company is made up of Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, the team behind the series.

Through 10 episodes, 'Big Mouth' follows real-life best friends Nick Kroll (of the 'Kroll Show', 'The League' fame) and Andrew Goldberg ('Family Guy') about the glorious nightmare that is teenaged puberty.

After a marvelous first two seasons and a Valentine special film, 'Big Mouth' could take any turn. At the end of season two, Connie, the Hormone Monstress, voiced by Maya Rudolph, becomes Nick's Hormone Monstress.

While there is no explanation or insight provided into this sudden change – considering how Connie herself has reiterated several times through the series that young girls get Hormone Monstresses and young boys get Hormone Monsters – some think that the show might take a surprise turn.

Fans of the show think that season three will see Nick struggle with his identity. But this theory can be easily put away since Nick is strongly based on Nick Kroll's character, who had previously said that he used his feminity to get girls in school.

Others believe that season three won't see Nick as a trans character, but will be debuting a new trans character – something that, according to fans, has been long overdue on a show that discusses teen and young adult sexuality and puberty.

Some fans are hoping that the creators of the show explore depression kitty. "I'm a little disappointed they only briefly touched on depression with this one. In less than half an episode Jessie was in and out. I'd like to see the depression kitty make a return." said one Reddit user.

We would also really appreciate seeing the creators make an episode that delves into the cons of imagination with respect to relationships and sex. "We kind of had it with Lola expecting Andrew to do certain things, but there wasn’t any actual focus on it. Seeing one of the main cast, probably Missy, expect someone else to match the fantasy they’ve built up of them and not do so would be interesting to me," said another user.

Comedian John Mulaney ('John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid', 'Saturday Night Live') lends his voice to the character of Andrew, while Kroll, who also serves as co-creator and executive producer, voices many characters including best friend Nick. Kroll, Goldberg and screenwriter-directors Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett are creators of the show and executive produce the series.

The first two seasons of 'Big Mouth' and the Valentine special are currently streaming on Netflix.
