It was announced last year that 'Big Brother' would be returning for a Season 22 as the show completes 20 years on the air in summer 2020. The show typically airs in June, however, the coronavirus wreaked havoc with its regular programming but the show is now ready to air. Earlier this month, CBS announced its return as well as the fact that it would be an All-Stars edition this year. Here's all you need to know about it.

Release date

The two-hour live move-in premiere event will air on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, between 9 pm to 11 pm ET on CBS. New episodes will premiere thrice per week. Following the premiere, the series will air between 8 pm to 9 pm ET on Sundays and Wednesdays. The Thursday episodes too will air at the same time and will feature the live eviction show that will be hosted by Julie Chen Moonves.

Plot

'Big Brother' follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with 94 HD cameras and 113 microphones, recording their every move 24 hours a day. Each week, someone will be voted out of the house, with the last remaining Houseguest receiving the grand prize of $500,000.

According to CBS's press release, "The BIG BROTHER production will follow specific health and safety protocols for COVID-19 with the welfare of everyone involved as the highest priority. Houseguests will undergo a quarantine period prior to production and will be tested several times prior to entering the House. Once inside, they will be tested weekly during the season and have no contact with any crew members, and all supplies delivered will be disinfected. In addition, the live show will not have a studio audience. All staff and crew members will be tested prior to commencing work on a regular basis, as well as screened daily for symptoms. They'll be required to wear PPE and will work in pods to enhance social distancing. In addition, a COVID-19 compliance officer will be on staff to monitor and enforce all health and safety COVID-19 protocols."

Cast

This season is an All-Star special. According to CBS's press release, the All-Star houseguests, including winners, finalists, legends, memorable personalities and some of the best to never win the game, will be announced closer to premiere. However, there is a lot of buzzes online as to who will be participating in the upcoming season. Brent Wolgamott is a trusted member of the online BB community and if his tweet is anything to go by, Dan Gheesling (BB10 and BB14), Da'Vonne Rogers (BB17 and BB18), and Derrick Levasseur (BB16) will all be back to compete. According to Oprah Mag, all of them have publicly declined their return to the show but with 'BB' one can never be sure.

Us Weekly also reported that Janelle Pierzina (BB6), Frankie Grande (BB16) and Tyler Crispen (BB20) had all been contacted even though the cast is yet to be finalized. The outlet quotes a source as saying, “Contracts are still be negotiated, but NDAs have gone out.” TMZ, too, has rolled out a reported cast list of their own. Ardent 'BB' fans can also follow Season 8 winner "Evel Dick" Donato @EvelDick for spoilers about the show.

'Big Brother' is produced by Emmy Award-winning producer, Allison Grodner, and Rich Meehan for Fly on the Wall Entertainment in association with Endemol Shine North America.
