A&E's latest reality show, 'Behind Bars: Women Inside', offers a raw yet intimate look into the lives of incarcerated women where every day is a battle for survival or a chance for redemption.

The new season opened with the stories of three female inmates, each of whose lives turned around since they have been incarcerated. But what remains the highlight of the first episode is the rivalry between the top dog, Baby D and a new entrant, Krystal Lugo.

Victoria Diaz, otherwise known by her street name Baby D, has been at the correctional center for breaking and entering as well as an assault on her friend. She considers herself to be the dominant female of the entire pack and ensures that she is heard.

She is "short-tempered", wants people to pay attention to her, and "be heard". While she has not engaged in any "violent" activity inside the prison, she has managed to tick off a lot of other inmates and ended up with a cold rivalry with them. But that's not the real problem with Baby D.

As a notorious gangbanger, she has quite a resume on the streets involving a whole range of illegal activities and assaults. A result of one such gang incident is Krystal Lugo, another inmate at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center.

Baby D happens to lay her eyes on Krystal from New Jersey, who is from her rival gang. The latter is charged with breaking and entering, along with torturing a 16-year old teenager in the basement of the latter's house.

According to police reports, she and her three "friends" caged the teenage girl and threatened her with a machete, burned and bruised her body with cigarettes, and shaved her head.

At the trial that ensued, Krystal’s defense argued that this was a result of a home invasion, which, Krystal suspects, was initiated by Baby D.

In her interviews, Baby D did mention that Krystal's victim happens to be her sister (not her own but a friend she calls her sister). Victoria Diaz appears to be the woman you don't want to mess with.

After all, her notoriety of a lowlife gangbanger makes her capable of taking a hit on Krystal, if she ever gets a chance. Elsewhere, Krystal feels threatened and has requested prison officials to ensure her safety.

So, eventually, she is moved into a secluded facility within the prison to keep her at bay from Baby D. However, knowing Baby D's gang network and her aggressive attitude, she might find a way to assault Krystal. The question now is if prison security can keep Krystal away from Baby D?

'Behind Bars: Women Inside' follows the lives of mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and sisters, from all possible walks of life. The four-part reality series airs on Tuesdays at 9 pm only on A&E.
