'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' rakes in $225M in opening weekend but falls behind projected earnings
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania', the 31st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is underperforming by about $30 million worldwide, according to collection numbers. The superhero threequel has raked in $225 million worldwide in its opening weekend with about $104 million domestically and another $121 million from other markets. This is in line with Friday projections, but less than the projected $255 million that Marvel Studios had anticipated the film would bring in.
All three Ant-Man movies have been directed by Peyton Reed and starred Paul Rudd as the endearing former thief who is now an Avenger. The first 'Ant-Man' ended its global run with $519 million in 2015, and 'Ant-Man 2' finished with $622 million in 2018.

'Antman 3' performance is less than stellar
Even though 'Ant-Man 3' made an unusual day-and-date premiere in China, its performance is not as strong as anticipated, according to Box Office Mojo figures. In sharp contrast to just a few years ago, when Hollywood studios seemed to favor China as a potentially lucrative region, the increasingly insular Middle Kingdom has essentially stopped admitting imports in the post-pandemic scenario. China, which is the film's largest international market, has seen sales of $19.2 million thus far.
The UK ($10.9 million), Mexico ($8.7 million), Korea ($7.2 million), Australia ($5.3 million), Indonesia ($5.1 million), Germany ($4.5 million), France ($4.5 million), Brazil ($3.9 million), and India ($3.9 million) follow China in terms of revenue. 'Ant-Man 3' is now running 27% behind 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' and 13% ahead of the original 'Ant-Man' movie. With China excluded, Ant-Man 3 is 52% better than 'Ant-Man' and 5% better than 'Ant-Man 2'.
