'American Song Contest': Fans say Jewel's song sounded 'Eurovisiony in a 2007 way'

'I dont want to sound mean but the song was way over produced,' one of the comments read

Jewel was one of the much-awaited contestants on Week 3 of 'American Song Contest' and the Alabama singer's 'The Story' had fans dishing out mixed reviews. Although Jewel kept it simple, the fans felt the track was overproduced and weren't thoroughly impressed.

This week's contestants include — Ni/Co (Alabama), Riker Lynch (Colorado), Nitro Nitra (Delaware), Ale Zabala (Florida), Brittany Pfantz (Louisiana), Brooke Alexx (New Jersey), Sabyu (Northern Mariana Islands), Jesse LeProtti (South Carolina), Judd Hoos (South Dakota), Tyler Braden (Tennessee) and Grant Knoche (Texas).

'American Song Contest' Week 3: Twitter says Alabama's Ni/Co's 'beginning was lackluster'

"Unpopular opinion - the Jewel song was not great (she’s had better) and New York was a good performance of a mediocre song and deserved not to move on. #AmericanSongContest," one of the tweets read. Another fan was in agreement. "Song 7 - Show 3 Alaska — Jewel — “The Story” i dont want to sound mean but the song was way over produced it sound like something from the early 80's My score - 3."

"I think Katy Perry's version of that song is better than Jewel's #AmericanSongContest," one of the fans opined. Some felt it was very euorvision. "Credit to Jewel for somehow having the most Eurovisiony song of the #AmericanSongContest so far," one of the tweets read. "Jewel's song and staging feel like what would happen if a classic Eurovision song got a modern staging #AmericanSongContest," another fan commented. "Jewel's song for Alaska sounds so Eurovisiony in a 2007 way and I kinda dig it #americansongcontest," a tweet said.
