Amanda Bynes breaks up with fiance less than a month after surprise engagement announcement on Valentine's Day
Last month, on Valentine’s day, Amanda Bynes took to Instagram to announce her engagement to a mystery man. The 33-year-old star, known for her roles in 'She's the Man', 'What a Girl Wants' and 'Easy A', had shown off her large engagement ring in an up-close photo of her hand on someone else’s, presumably her fiance, on the social media platform. She captioned the Instagram post: "Engaged to the love of my life."
Later, the mystery man was identified as Paul Michael, whom she met at an AA meeting in 2019 and dated for a few months before announcing the engagement. However, now the same person has revealed that the couple has called it quits.
Michael confirmed to In Touch Weekly that they have broken up, but he refrained from giving too much detail regarding the same to the celebrity gossip magazine. “I love her though, she’s my best friend,” Michael told the outlet.
Bynes has not publicly commented on the split, but her Instagram does not have the Valentine’s day announcement pictures anymore. Her recent Instagram post is six days old, which shows her celebrating one year and two months of sobriety with two male friends.
If things have gone down well, this would have been the first marriage for Bynes, who quit the Hollywood scene in 2010 when she was just 24. Her last movie was 'Easy A', following which she battled substance abuse and mental health issues, and it took her years to come out of it.
However, soon after the ex-couple’s engagement, reports also surfaced that Bynes’s parents were dead against her marriage to Michael because they felt his financial status was not very impressive. Her family believed that Michael was unemployed and that’s why he bought Bynes the fake engagement ring off Amazon for $49.
They thought that Michael was just a rebound for Bynes as she had a boyfriend recently. Also, marrying without the consent of Bynes’ mother was next to impossible for her as she is her conservator and the couple would have required her blessings to legally tie the knot.
