Is Black Eyed Peas' Apl.de.ap working on a solo track? Rapper tells fans 'you’re the source behind next song'
Allan Pineda Lindo, better known by his stage name Apl.de.ap and longtime member of Grammy-winning hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas has something special to say for his fans. Taking to his social media account in the late hours of September 20, the rapper-singer and producer revealed he is working on a new song, but his message shared on both Twitter and Instagram, alludes to fan involvement of some kind.
"You’re the source behind this next song," Lindo wrote in the caption alongside a selfie of him in the studio. Based on the photo showing several layers of the song already recorded, it is safe to say that the ambiguous note points to the rapper drawing inspiration from fans, but how or if fans are going to be contributing to the track, it is not confirmed. Additionally, the rapper hasn't shared a title or release date yet.
As of late, there is also no news of new music from The Black Eyed Peas on their social media accounts, so Apl.de.ap's new song is presumably a solo effort. If that is the case, the announcement of a new song by Lindo himself comes as a welcome surprise, as his latest single under his own name released five years ago. Titled 'Be', the track featured rapper, songwriter Honey Cocaine and Jessica Reynoso who now goes by her stage name J Rey Soul. You can watch the official music video below.
In 2019, Apl.de.ap collaborated with Filipino composer Ryan Cayabyab for his performance in the opening ceremony of the Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. He and the rest of The Black Eyed Peas also performed in the closing ceremony.
Most of his musical efforts since his last single have been with the group, so the mystery surrounding his new post is a curious one, to say the least. The Black Eyed Peas' latest studio album, titled 'Translation' arrived in June 2020. The album features guest appearances from Shakira, J Balvin, Ozuna, Maluma, Nicky Jam, Tyga, El Alfa, Piso 21, Becky G, and French Montana, and saw the group diving into Latin-charged music. Although the LP was met with generally positive reviews by critics, Hot Press Magazine was more impressed, applauding their foray into reggaetón and saying, "The collaborations are seamless and the tracks as catchy as ever, cementing the modern global success of Latin-inspired dance music."
Earlier this month, The Black Eyes Peas announced a new challenge in promotion of the new LP and its featured track 'Vida Loca'. The challenge will give a chance for participants to show off their best dance moves and win prizes by uploading videos to online platforms such as Instagram FEED, TikTok, or Triller.
