Allesia Cara performs 'Trust My Lonely' at MTV EMAs, bags award for Best World Stage
The Grammy Award-winner sported her signature oversized suit yet again for the spellbinding performance.
Alessia Cara took the stage at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Spain for the live recreation of her 'Trust My Lonely' music video during the MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday. “She makes music with a message and gives a voice to an entire generation,” declared the evening’s host, Hailee Steinfeld, before Cara made her grand entrance. Later in the night, Alessia was also the recipient of the EMA award for Best World Stage.
The Grammy Award-winner once again donned her symbolic, oversized suit for the performance. The outfit is a recurring motif in the artwork of her forthcoming sophomore album 'The Pains of Growing'. Cara has been rocking the look on her recent television performances as well. She even wore it for her recent appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Colbert, The Today Show and also her performances at Austin City Limits.
“It's an artistic way of symbolizing the idea of growing up," Alessia explained the outfit during her appearance on The Today Show. "Sometimes you kind of feel like you're drowning and you feel like you're not ready for the roles life throws at you so this was my way of symbolizing it in an artistic way.”

The 22-year-old singer recently caught some flak for her signature oversized suit, and she took to Twitter to defend her outfit. "I don't like giving attention to negative comments, but I just want to log onto my twitter & be able to talk to my supporters without seeing the same shit about what I wear," Cara wrote. "I work too hard as a writer and artist to be reduced down to the girl who dresses bad."
Cara's quip was supported by Kehlani, who replied with "THANK U, NEXXXXXT," which incidentally happens to be the title of Arian Grande's forthcoming album. Grande herself chimed in on the thread with just a full-stop, letting fans interpret it however they want.
