A day before his new Netflix dark comedy 'AJ and the Queen' released on January 10, RuPaul was over the moon at the premiere of the series in Hollywood, CA on January 9.

At the premiere, RuPaul revealed what he wanted to achieve when he made the decision to work on the project. “The accomplishment was to have fun and create and collaborate and do something that was really unique. Then after that, it’s in the hands of the public, whether they embrace it or not, I hope they do. But the main thing is that we had a lot of fun doing it,” he told HollywoodLife.

The show follows Drag Queen Ruby Red on a road trip with their sidekick AJ—a 10-year-old orphaned girl. As they perform fabulous shows and hide from criminals, the duo develops the sweetest bond.

At the premiere, RuPaul had requested that everyone wear red, in honor of the main character and the star of the show—'Ruby Red.'

At 59, RuPaul showed that he's still got the game, as he turned up for the premiere in a black buttoned shirt and a red velvet blazer.

He recently revealed how playing the role of Ruby Red helped him personally, “My heart isn’t black. It’s actually pumping blood and it’s alive. It was really lovely to dig deep. It’s been years of protecting that soft underbelly and then to be in the safe hands of Michael Patrick King (the show’s program creator). I was able to just bloom and just be vulnerable and I love that," he told Variety.

While taking the stage amidst a standing ovation during the screening, RuPaul said, "This show is a love letter to the United States of America and beyond, it is an adjustment to a world that feels so fractured right now. This is a show that is saying 'Let’s get together and recognize our similarities rather than our differences.’”

All 10 episodes of 'AJ and the Queen' are now streaming on Netflix.
