Spoilers ahead for Season 2 Episode 3 'Mixed Signals' of 'A Million Little Things'

After last week's episode ended on an Eric (Jason Ritter) cliffhanger, we were left wondering who the mystery man in Patricia's (Melora Hardin) life is and why she was lying to her daughter Maggie (Allison Miller) about him. But after tonight's episode 'Mixed Signals' ended on yet another Eric cliffhanger, we are sure about one thing: that Eric and Patricia do not share a romantic relationship.

Instead, Eric is Patricia's secret child. Which makes him Maggie's secret half-brother.

But this is only a speculation. Despite the build-up, even in this episode, Eric's true identity, his intentions, and Patricia's intentions aren't revealed.

At the beginning of the episode, Maggie wakes up upset with Gary. But he keeps pushing her to talk to her mother, keeps pushing her to not just give up on Patricia.

Following his advice, Maggie visits her mother. When she reaches there, she sees Patricia crying and saying how she wishes people around her knew how really sorry she was. She also says that she doesn't regret knowing Eric or what they have together but that she regrets hurting people - but before this is taken forward, Maggie realizes she is talking on the phone. She asks Patricia who Eric is. She gives her an unsatisfactory "he's a friend" and that she only met him a month ago, which only riles up her daughter. Maggie asks her if she is seeing Eric and Patricia denies it. But when Maggie asks who she is in Boston for - Eric or her - Patricia admits both of them.

Disappointed, Maggie walks away without giving Patricia enough of an opportunity to answer her truthfully. Gary is still pretty adamant that they reconcile. So he convinces Maggie to invite her mother for a brunch. Who shows up with Eric. Maggie is shocked to see Eric there. When he asks Patricia if she didn't inform Maggie that he was joining them, Maggie says that she didn't.

Fans are also predicting that Eric could be Patricia's son. If so, her bringing him along for breakfast would be one way to break the ice. Is there any better?

'A Million Little Things' airs Thursdays 9|8c on ABC.
