For Tiffany Brooks, every space is a design challenge, an opportunity to see just how much she can do and how far she can take it. This week on '$50k Three Ways', Brooks pulled off a massive renovation, all within a pretty impressive budget.

Enter Rochelle and Jeremy, the homeowners who got Brooks on board to help them revamp their home. Being the parents of two young children, the couple has a massive home. However, when it came to their personal style or using their spaces smartly, they both admitted they needed professional help. And who better than Brooks to tackle those issues expertly.

Upon entering their home, Brooks was thrown off guard as the couple in fact had a lovely home in her opinion, although it could use some work. A little into the episode and she figures out the root of the problem — the couple had a lot of space but no idea what to do with it.

Being the parents of two young children, they wanted to have a more grown-up area, but their chidlren's toys tended to take over every corner of the house. Luckily, because the couple had such a massive house and multiple unused areas, Brooks realized that there was a lot of potential to work with here. The couple pointed out their three main problem areas — their living room often seemed to be overturned by toys and they wanted it to look more like an adult area to entertain guests. They also had a lovely backyard that Jeremy believed had the potential to be a great summer outdoor space to spend time with the children.

Finally, there was the massive basement, which was entirely untouched. It's here that Rochelle had quite the vision. She wanted a home theater, a wet bar, a guest bedroom and even a full bathroom. Brooks was unsure about the request as it could not fit within their budget. However, the couple assured her that they were willing to go over the numbers and find a little wiggle room, putting Brooks at ease as she hit the drawing board.

Brooks proposed three possible ideas for the couple to go with.

Spread the love

Budget: $50,000

This floor plan focused entirely on revamping the living area. Brooks noticed quite a bit of unutilized space and proposed creating a home office at the entrance, which allowed the couple to have an additional room with a built-in library.

Outdoor sanctuary

Budget: $48,000

Complete with an outdoor kitchen, this area would let the couple spend more time here during the summer and also allow them to entertain guests in the backyard.

The basement

Budget: $60,300
The most expensive space was the basement. Brooks planned a small home theatre, a wet bar, a bedroom, a full bathroom, a small play area and still had space to boot. However, she didn't have any room left in her budget, so she suggested sealing off the remainder of the space and using it as a closet instead.

The couple finally went with...

Although it would cost them an additional $10,000, the couple agreed that spending the money on their basement was easily the best bet, seeing that out of the other two options, this required the most amount of work and would yield the highest result.

Brooks went about the work in her usual fashion, however, there was some resistance from Rochelle since Brooks' bold color choices didn't sit too well with her. She ultimately chose to just trust the process instead, seeing that Brooks has always had a knack for all things color. The final result was absolutely stunning. The basement looked like a whole new space. Brooks managed to come in slightly under budget too, the entire renovation cost $59,000.
