Twitter always manages to keep followers on their toes with news and celebrity updates but once in a while, it can prove entertaining for other reasons. Rapper 42 Dugg started trending on the social media platform July 21 after a new track was leaked and numerous tweets reveal its lyrics have been misheard from a snippet. The clip of the as-yet-untitled track has 42 Dugg rapping in a slurred, mumbled flow, but many users think he is rapping about performing fellatio on a man to get money to pay his rent. Listen to the clip here.

Followers have posted numerous memes and gifs after they heard the lyrics in question as "I was out here sucking d**k I was tryin pay the rent."

One fan wrote, "42 dugg was doing whaaa???" while another said, "42 Dugg turned into a Glizzy Goblin to keep a roof over his head?"

The rising Detroit rapper took to his Twitter account to write the actual lyrics, tweeting, "HOES OUT HERE SUCKIN D**K… I WAS TRYNA PAY HER RENT." But the confusion hasn't ceased as followers are still doubtful. "Nah s**t was loud and clear," replied a fan and another added, "I’m saying tho I don’t hear 'hoe' at all." An understanding fan wrote, "You just gotta enunciate your words more, buddy." Another said, "Okay we just wanted to know we thought u was tripping."

Dugg, whose real name is Dion Marquise Hayes, is a rising rapper from Detroit who garnered popularity after his alignment with Lil Baby and the 4PF movement. He collaborated with Lil Baby on charting tracks including 'Grace' and 'We Paid'. The latter became his first debut in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 'Grace' peaked at No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100. He is jointly signed by Lil Baby and Yo Gotti through Empire Records.

Hardcore fans might have known better to not make assumptions on his lyrics as 42 Dugg usually musters a slurred vocal style with auto-tune into his music. His whistle has been noted as his signature sound that also kicks off just about every song on his 2020 mixtape 'Young and Turnt Vol 2'.
