‘30 Coins’: Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the Spanish HBO horror series
Netflix has shown a knack for producing enticing and delicious Spanish dramas. Obviously, these shows have found fans all over the world. It would only make sense for other giants to tap into that market, right? HBO is now coming up with an eight-episode horror series called ‘30 Monedas’ or ‘30 Coins’. Here is all you need to know about it:
Release date
‘30 Monedas’ or ‘30 Coins’ produced by HBO Europe in Spain, debuts Monday, January 4, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back on HBO. The series will also be featured on HBO Max and can be found on its “International Genre” page. The horror series made its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
Plot
‘30 Monedas’ or ‘30 Coins’ follows Father Vergara, an exorcist, sent away by the church, to become the local priest of Pedraza, a remote town in Spain. When inexplicable terror begins to plague the idyllic community, the local vet Elena and the town’s mayor, Paco, form an unlikely alliance to understand the source of the strange and demonic events.

Eduard Fernández as Father Vergara
Born Eduardo Fernández Serrano, the 56-year-old Spanish screen and stage actor is best known for his roles in ‘El nino’, ‘Everybody Knows’, and ‘Biutiful’. He has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including three Goya Awards and four Gaudí Awards.
Megan Montaner as Elena
The 33-year-old Spanish actor and former model is best known for television shows such as ‘El secreto de Puente Viejo’, ‘Gran Hotel’, and ‘Sin identidad’.
Miguel Ángel Silvestre as Paco
The 38-year-old Spanish actor is best known for playing the roles of Alberto Márquez in ‘Velvet’ and ‘Velvet Colección’, as well as Lito Rodríguez and Franklin Jurado in the Netflix original series ‘Sense8’ and ‘Narcos’ respectively, and El Duque in the Spanish television show ‘Sin tetas no hay paraíso’.
The series also stars Macarena Gómez, Pepón Nieto, and Manolo Solo, among others.

Shot in Rome, Paris, New York, Jerusalem, Geneva, and throughout Spain, ‘30 Monedas’ or ‘30 Coins’ is directed by acclaimed horror auteur Álex de la Iglesia of ‘The Day of the Beast’ and ‘The Last Circus’ fame. It has been co-written by Álex de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría. Steve Matthews, Miguel Salvat, and Antony Root serve as Executive Producers for HBO Europe. Álex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang are Executive Producers for Pokeepsie Films. The series is produced in participation with HBO Latin America and Pokeepsie Films.
