LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, hosted at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, marked a triumphant return to the calendar after last year's delay caused by strikes among Hollywood writers and actors.

This prestigious event celebrated the best in daytime television, honoring the outstanding achievements of soap operas, talk shows, game shows, and culinary series.

From heartfelt tributes to historic wins, the 2024 Daytime Emmys showcased the talent, and innovation within the industry, reminding audiences of the enduring power and allure of daytime programming.

Worst Dressed Celebs at Daytime Emmys 2024

Suzanne Rogers

Suzanne Rogers wore a red gown with intricate beading and a flowing train. However, the dress's heavy beading and the dramatic train appeared overwhelming and somewhat outdated. The ensemble lacked a modern touch, making it seem more suited to a different era. Additionally, the vibrant red, though striking, didn't complement her complexion as well as a different color might have.

Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel chose a vintage-inspired dress adorned with floral patterns, featuring a fitted bodice and a flared skirt. However, the whimsical nature of the dress, while aligned with Zooey's quirky style, appeared too casual and dated for the red carpet.

The floral pattern and flared skirt, along with the overall fit, gave the outfit an air more suited for a garden party rather than a formal awards ceremony.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson opted for a sleek, metallic silver gown featuring a high slit and an off-the-shoulder neckline. However, while the metallic gown aimed for boldness, it came across as overly flashy and lacking refinement.

The high slit and off-the-shoulder design, while glamorous, felt excessive and overshadowed her natural elegance. The overall look leaned more toward a nightclub outfit than the refined attire expected at an award show.

Jackee Harry

Jackee Harry chose a satin blue dress with a flowing silhouette, modest neckline, and long sleeves. Despite its elegant concept, the satin blue dress appeared somewhat ill-fitting and dated in execution. The heavy fabric and conservative cut didn't flatter her figure, and the overall look lacked the modern sophistication expected at such a high-profile event.

Finola Hughes

Finola Hughes opted for a cream suit paired with a black top. While a suit can be a chic choice, this particular cream suit fell flat. The fit was less tailored than it could have been, giving it a boxy appearance. Paired with the blacktop, the ensemble looked more like office wear than a red carpet outfit.

Soap opera community pays tribute to Johnny Wactor

The soap opera community paid heartfelt tributes to Johnny Wactor following the tragic news of his death. Wactor, who played Brando Corbin on 'General Hospital' from 2020 to 2022, was only 37 years old.

He was shot and killed on Saturday morning during an attempted theft of his car's catalytic converter. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Wactor was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The official 'General Hospital' Instagram account shared a statement expressing their grief. “The entire 'General Hospital' family is heartbroken to hear of Johnny Wactor’s untimely passing. He was truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Sofia Mattsson, who played Wactor's on-screen wife, also posted a touching tribute on Instagram. She wrote, “My heart is so utterly broken… Johnny was the absolute best. So genuine. So caring. Incredibly hard-working and humble. With a huge heart that spread so much kindness and joy. He always made sure everyone around him felt seen, heard and loved. I admire the man he was so much and I’m a better person for having known him.”

She added, “We shared so many special moments, both on and off screen, and I will forever cherish them deeply in my heart. You will be so incredibly missed Johnny… I’m sure you’re already busy taking care of everyone up there.”

Jon Lindstrom, another 'General Hospital' co-star, shared his sorrow on social media alongside a photo of Wactor. “When the tears slow down, I was literally sick to my stomach at this news. Johnny was one of those rare young men in this business who was kind, unassuming, humble, and always thought about other people."

Lindstrom added, "A talented young guy who just wanted to share that talent with the world. I wished I had enough love to fill the hole that his loved ones must feel right now, but I knew that was impossible. Johnny would be missed on this plane.”

'The Kelly Clarkson Show’ scores fourth consecutive win

'The Kelly Clarkson Show' celebrated a major achievement at the Daytime Emmy Awards by winning its fourth consecutive award in the daytime show category.  Kelly Clarkson, the host of the show, was present to accept the trophy.

She shared her excitement and gratitude, highlighting the positive impact of relocating her show from Los Angeles to New York. “The move has been so great, not just for me and my family but for our whole show,” Clarkson said. She also thanked NBC, saying, “Thank you for thinking of mental health and not just a product.”

Dick Van Dyke becomes the oldest Daytime Emmy winner

At the age of 98, iconic actor Dick Van Dyke achieved a historic milestone at the Daytime Emmy Awards by becoming the oldest winner in the event's history. Van Dyke received the prestigious award for his guest performance as amnesiac Timothy Robicheaux on Peacock's “Days of Our Lives.”

During his acceptance speech, Van Dyke expressed his disbelief and gratitude, remarking, “I’m 98 years old. Can you believe it? This really tops off a lifetime of 80 years in the business.” He humorously added, “If I had known I would have lived this long I would’ve taken better care of myself.”

Accompanied by his wife, Arlene, who held the trophy, Van Dyke received a standing ovation as he made his way to the stage using a cane. He fondly recalled his wife's role on the show, stating, “I brought this lady up because she was also on the show. She played the cop who arrested me.”
