The 40th edition of MTV VMAs is all set to take place on Sunday, September 12, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Unlike last year, the mega event will host a live audience at the venue. Justin Bieber, who topped the charts this year with two albums and multiple collaborations, bagged seven nominations, the most this year followed by Megan Thee Stallion with six nods.

Drake, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo are some of the other artists who will be eyeing to take home the Moon Person trophy. Though last year, the event was hosted by Keke Palmer, the show makers are yet to spill the beans on this year’s host. To mark the 40th edition and honor the victims of the 2001 terror attacks, MTV VMAs roped in Kehinde Wiley to redesign the Moon Person trophy. Speaking of the award ceremony, the first round of performers has been announced that include Lorde, Camila Cabello, and Lil Nas X among a few others.

2021 MTV VMAs: Date, venue, how to watch and all about 40th edition of award ceremony

Lorde

Lorde, who has finally dropped her third studio effort, will be making a comeback to the VMAs after a gap of four years. The New Zealand crooner will hit the stage with songs from her new album ‘Solar Power’. We can expect her to perform the title track, ‘Moon Ring’ and ‘Stoned at the Nail Salon’.

Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo is probably the biggest R&B star of 2021 with her single ‘drivers license’ breaking all the possible streaming records. The 18-year-old songstress will be making her debut at the 2021 MTV VMAs on September 12. Rodrigo has also bagged a whopping five nominations including the biggies- Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.

Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X might have courted several controversies this year but that did not stop him to release music the way he wants to. The 22-year-old rapper, singer, and songwriter dropped chart-topping bangers like ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name), ‘Industry Baby’ and ‘Sun Goes Down’ and he is expected to mesmerize the audience with the same.

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello dropped her much-controversial ‘Don’t Go Yet’ in July 2021 and she will be taking over the stage with the same song. Camila Cabello was crucified on Twitter after a white dancer in the background was spotted with a blackface when she performed the track on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly, who is currently enjoying his punk rock era, will be flooring the audience at 2021 MTV VMAs with songs like ‘Love Race’ and ‘Papercuts’. He is also expected to make an appearance with his actor girlfriend Megan Fox on the red carpet- a ritual the couple has been following since the beginning of 2021.

Foo Fighters

Though Foo Fighters have not been officially announced as 2021 MTV VMAs performers, they might hit the stage with their latest tracks. The legendary band fronted by Dave Grohl will be honored with Global Icon Award this year.

2021 MTV VMAs will be aired at 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT on CTV. The show will also be aired simultaneously on CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land, VH1, and the CW Network on Sunday, September 12.
