1.5 million try to buy tickets for NCT Dream's 20k-seat concert, fans say 'that's crazy'
After constantly getting schedules with only five members of NCT Dream, fans requested the label SM to let all seven members participate in group activities. Well, it seems like SM has heard fans’ prayers and announced ‘The Dream Show 2’, the group’s first solo concert in 3 years. On top of it, it is extra special since member Mark Lee will be present making it NCT Dream’s first full group concert since their debut in 2016. And so it doesn’t seem surprising that 1.5 million fans tried to buy tickets when they went on sale.
SM also announced that NCT Dream will be having the concert in South Korea’s first dome stadium, the Gocheok Sky Dome in July. With 16k seating capacity and space for a total of 20k audience, fans were proud that the K-pop group was getting a huge venue. The tickets would be going on sale in two parts – the pre-sale for members of the fan club and the general tickets. However, it seemed to be game over during the pre-sale duration itself, as the website Yes24 crashed. They then revealed that 1.5 million people had tried to buy the tickets for NCT Dream’s first full group concert.

NCT Dream proves title as one of the leading 3rd-gen K-pop groups
While non-fans often mistake NCT Dream as a fourth-gen or a new group because of the members’ young ages, the K-pop group actually debuted in 2016 and is in the same league as NCT 127, Seventeen, TWICE, Monsta X, GOT7, Red Velvet and the like. In fact, in 2021, NCT Dream became the youngest triple million sellers in K-pop with the release of ‘Hot Sauce’ and its reissue ‘Hello Future’. They had also become the first K-pop group ever to make 500k sales for a repackaged album. Their latest studio album set the bar even higher as ‘Glitch Mode’ had 2 million pre-orders and crossed 1.12 million actual sales in just four days.
If that wasn’t enough, NCT Dream also managed to make a record with their new reissue ‘Beatbox’ despite a retailer messing up the album orders. The album crossed 848k sales, coming in a close second, with BTS’ ‘Love Yourself: Answer’ ranking first place with just 868k sales. With the retailer failing to ship 300k copies, fans calculated that had the mishap not happened, ‘Beatbox’ would have become the first K-pop reissue to cross the million mark in its first week.

Fans were proud as they made tweets like, “Stop seeing the old tweets of dream saying look forward to the sm rookies show and now their first 7dream concert had 1.5 million people trying to buy tickets at once MY BABIES.” Another NCTzen commented, “1.5 million logins 😀 Yes24 is one of the biggest concert ticket booking sites in Korea they have plenty of experience at this, and yet Dreamzens broke them.” One fan posted, “The biggest number i've seen was only 637k++ it's NOT even the half of what the staffs informed us 😭1,5 MILLION people accessing the website maybe the numbers we saw was also got delayed and didn't show the exact numbers 😭THAT'S CRAZY!”

THAT'S CRAZY!
One fan tried to calculate how much SM must have earned just by selling memberships to those who wanted access to the pre-sale, “Hold on. sm sold ace memberships for $34.65. there are no physical benefits. 1.5 million ace members tried to log in for ticket presale, not including those of us who cannot travel to korea. just those 1.5M ace memberships made sm 51.9M dollars? am i mathing the math right?” Another fan was impressed, “1.5 million people trying to buy tickets for Dream’s concert 😨 AND YALL SAY THOSE ALBUM SALES ARE FAKE!” One NCTzen added, “1.5 million people trying to get dream tickets today. ONE AND A HALF MILLION. they would need an additional 86 DAYS of shows to perform for that amount of people in the sky dome. i don’t EVER wanna hear people discredit them in the sales department anymore.”
