LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The legendary post-apocalyptic action-adventure classic, 'Mad Max' is set to make a comeback on screen with 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,' which will explore the origins of Imperator Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy), a character first introduced in the critically acclaimed 2015 film 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' starring Charlize Theron.

The film, which recently premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2024, is greatly anticipated by fans owing to its nostalgic value and the star power of Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth.

However, fans will have to wait a little longer for the film, which opens in theaters in Australia on May 23, 2024.  So, if you're finding it increasingly difficult to wait for the action-adventure film, let's explore our carefully chosen selection of films that will undoubtedly eliminate your waiting blues.

'The Book of Eli' is a neo-Western action film with a plot that is set decades after a world war and follows Eli (Denzel Washington), a wanderer who carries a mysterious book that he believes holds the key to rebuilding society.

While walking across a lonely wasteland, Eli faces many threats, including robbers, warlords, and people who are thirsty for knowledge.

You should definitely watch 'The Book of Eli' if you like the backdrop of 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,' since it takes place in similarly dismal settings devastated by resource scarcity and conflict.

Furthermore, the protagonists of both films are shown traveling across a dangerous wasteland facing risks and difficulties that put their determination to the test.

Snowpiercer

The 2013 film 'Snowpiercer' is set on a massive, perpetually rolling train that is carrying the surviving humans of mankind following a worldwide ice age.

The wealthy elite live in opulent coaches at the front of the train, while the impoverished and oppressed are jammed into the dirty, crowded tail sections.

Curtis Everett (Chris Evans) leads a rebellion from the back of the train, fighting his way through the various classes and towards the engine, where the enigmatic Wilford (Ed Harris) is in charge of everything.

Similar to 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,' 'Snowpiercer' also shows communities ruled by despotic rulers who take advantage of the weaker members of society.

Blade Runner 2049

The visually striking, apocalyptic future settings of 'Blade Runner 2049' and 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' are one commonality between both.

The premises of 'Blade Runner 2049' are set in a neon-soaked city in 2049, where bioengineered people known as replicants are forced into slavery.  The plot of the movie follows Blade Runner K (Ryan Gosling), a special police officer assigned to retire or rather kill replicants.

As the story goes on, K discovers a sinister replicant secret that has the potential to topple civilization, so he sets out on a quest to learn the truth. You should definitely watch 'Blade Runner 2049' to escape the waiting blues of 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', as both films boast outstanding world-building and eye-catching dystopian cinematography.

The Terminator

While the 1984 film does not take place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, society faces the risk of a nuclear war sparked by artificial intelligence in 'The Terminator'.

Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a cyborg assassin sent back in time from a future where machines govern the world to murder Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), a young woman destined to give birth to the leader of the human resistance against robots.

Similar to 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', 'The Terminator' is an action-packed film that tackles the themes of survival, revolt, and the struggle for power through exciting chases, confrontations, and survival-related battles.

The 2012 action movie, directed by Gary Ross, is set in the dystopian future nation of Panem, which is split between the opulent Capitol and destitute districts. Each district is required to send a tribute, a boy and a girl to compete in 'The Hunger Games', a televised spectacle where they must battle to the death.

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), offers to play her younger sister in the games, and she must utilize her cunning and hunting prowess to survive.

Similar to 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', oppressive dictators who control other people's lives are a feature of 'The Hunger Games'. Districts in 'The Hunger Games' are compelled to compete by the Capitol. Immortan Joe is the one in Furiosa who has authority over his people and manages the water supply.
