Yoko Ono shifts to NY village farm leaving lavish Manhattan apartment where husband John Lennon was shot to death
FRANKLIN, NEW YORK: Yoko Ono, 90, widow of The Beatles frontman John Lennon, has reportedly left the city life behind to live out the rest of her days in an upstate farm she had bought with her husband in 1978. Ono has left the Upper West Side building where she had lived with Lennon for decades before he had been assassinated. It is reported that Ono had moved into a 600-acre farm during the 2020 pandemic and has chosen to remain there forever.
This change comes 42 years after the Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman in front of the iconic Manhattan apartment building. The singer-activist apparently has no plans to move back into the stately seven floor nine-room apartment. However, Ono’s permanent move has had people wondering if she plans on selling the building, however, there has been no suggestion for it as such. This marks a great change of pace for Ono, who has stepped back from the spotlight because of her declining health in the last few years. She requires round-the-clock medical care and also now uses a wheelchair to move about.

Yoko Ono moves to farm in upstate New York
The apartment that she now leaves behind is home to a whole host of memories with late husband Lennon. Ono's new residence is away from the thriving social life. It seems as though Ono has no plans to completely isolate herself from the world just yet. She purchased the farm property with Lennon, for a cost of $178,000 all the way back in the late '70s. The purchase was not of just the property as the pair had also bought 100 Holstein cattle.
The property offers great privacy for the multimedia artist and high security as well.
However, she isn't disconnecting with the world completely- Ono had recently hosted guests for her 90th birthday bash. It was a night of good food and music, with the guest list including her son Sean and his longtime partner of 20 years, Charlotte.
Ono’s retreat into a quiet life
In the last many years, Ono has gone on to take several steps back from the spotlight and has retreated into the privacy of her home. She has not made many public appearances, but she certainly has played host to a variety of big names, such as Judy Garland, Lauren Bacall and Leonard Bernstein. She has also stopped attending public events and handed over the reigns of the eight companies in connection with the family and The Beatles, including the multimedia Apple Corps, which has assets worth $36 million.
