'Yay and Nay': Internet reacts to Harrison Ford joining the MCU replacing late William Hurt in 'Captain America 4'
After 'Star Wars', Harrison Ford is all set to foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and slips into a role last played by the late William Hurt. The 'Indiana Jones' star will essay General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross in the upcoming MCU film 'Captain America: New World Order'. Ford will star alongside Anthony Mackie's new Captain America Sam Wilson, with an ensemble cast that includes Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, and Carl Lumbly.
The fourth installment will see Mackie reprise the role after 'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier' and while details of the plot are scarce, the movie will now see a massive cast addition in the 'Han Solo' star. Fans were ecstatic about the news, and the development sparked memes, a tad bit of unsurprising brickbats, and joy.

'Captain America 4': Cast, date, plot, and the latest buzz around MCU movie
"The nerd boy in me is so excited to hear Harrison Ford will be replacing William Hurt (RIP) as General Ross in the MCU," one of the fans wrote. "Harrison Ford officially in the MCU and Henry Cavill back as Superman with big plans… what a good day to be a nerd!" another wrote. "If #HarrisonFord is being cast as #ThunderboltRoss then I think that means - Ross is not important in the MCU or future projects. Ford is 80, no way they are pinning stuff for him that could happen when he's 83-85. - If Red Hulk does show up it's a swerve or - he's 1 and done," a fan tweeted.
"Anyone who is down on Harrison Ford being cast as Ross in the MCU is someone with an absolutely worthless opinion," one of the tweets read. "A little bit of a bummer, not gonna lie. William Hurt was great as General Ross since the original Hulk movie. I like Harrison Ford but it won't hit the same," a fan opined. "I know I'm definitely in the minority here but I'm not feeling this recast. Love Harrison without a doubt but Hurt had a presence as Ross and played the role for 11 years. Ford just doesn't give me that vibe. This feels like marvel just wanting a big name for their movies again," a fan tweeted.
"They clearly aren’t casting for longevity here, considering he’s 80 now. Hard to see us getting Ross’s Red Hulk from this, at least not for more than one movie. Alternatively, they could cast somebody 20ish years younger who could have a fairly lengthy run as Robert Maverick," a comment said.

'The Falcon and The Winter Soldier' was all about Wilson finally embracing the fact that he was indeed the Captain America the world needed after Steve Rogers' death during the blip. There's no telling which direction or arc the movie might take. But surely it will be thought-provoking considering how Evans' movies were all about the life and times of Rogers in a modern-day world where Hydra wasn't the only evil that needed to be weeded out.
'Captain America: New World Order' is slated to release May 3, 2024.
