The 'Wonder Woman 1984' trailer had fans on their toes as Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) swings from a lightning bolt. Yet, the question that has been on everyone's lips is, "How is Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) alive?"

As a slight refresher, the first film introduced Trevor as an American spy, who works with Diana during the First World War. A romance blooms between them, and then Trevor rides off on a heroic mission in order to sacrifice himself to prevent gas from being used in the war.

Well, guess what, he's back. How, though? His character was extremely popular, so Warner Bros must have really racked their brains to bring back this dashing and charming hero.

But this is the world of comic books, so there are several (read: infinite) methods of bringing humans and superheroes back. One possibility is that Trevor could return as an alternate version of himself (because that's always an option), or maybe he was just saved from his real death through a time warp.

And, there were several continuity errors in the 'Wonder Woman' comics, due to numerous launches and reboots of the franchise, which director Patty Jenkins could easily borrow from.

'WW 1984' stars Gal Gadot in the title role, with Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen in supporting roles.

It is the fourth live-action theatrical film featuring the title character, following 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' (2016), 'Wonder Woman' and 'Justice League' (2017) and will be the second stand-alone feature film centered around the character.

'Wonder Woman 1984' will release on June 5, 2020.  The film was initially slated for a November 2019 release, as Warner Bros reportedly wanted a "tentpole" film scheduled for release in 2019.

DCEU films have been largely absent from 2019 because they wanted to ensure that 'Wonder Woman 1984' lived up to the expectations of the audience.
