SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The Internet is firmly standing with a woman who walked out of an awkward dinner with her brother and his new girlfriend after she deliberately kept calling her by wrong names. The 27-year-old woman noted that her actual name is Evangeline, which she only ever abbreviates to Angie but her brother’s new girlfriend kept calling her Eve and Eva during their first meet.

"My name is Evangeline. That is my legal name. I don't like being called Evangeline, just a nickname from it. I don't go by Eve, Evie, or Eva, or any variation of that. I go by Angie and I've always gone by that," she wrote in a post on Reddit's popular forum, "Am I The A**hole?" Evangeline said she introduced herself as Angie when she met her brother’s 22-year-old girlfriend for the first time but she just kept calling her everything except that. “I did explain it’s short for Evangeline but that nobody ever calls me that. She kept calling me Eve or Eva or even Evangeline,” she wrote in the post.

The user claimed that despite her repeated corrections, her brother's girlfriend continued to make mistakes, likely because of her nervousness from their first meeting. “It got to the point where I corrected her so much that it almost felt like she was doing it deliberately and I found it really rude and idk about anyone else but I think it’s common courtesy to respect someone enough to at least call them by the right name,” Evangeline continued.

'I'm sorry, I have to go and just left'

She continued by stating that the woman continued calling her by the wrong name to the point where she was forced to leave the dinner. "It really irked me so I just said that it was nice to meet her but I'm sorry, I have to go and just left," Angie explained. After the awkward meeting, Evangeline’s brother told her that his girlfriend was insulted by her leaving the meal and was afraid that she didn't like her.

“Apparently her feelings are hurt and he wants me to apologize. I told him frankly, I don’t care about how she felt. What about me? I was there for like an hour and she constantly kept calling me the wrong name and it felt like I was being disrespected so I left. He is telling me I’m a grown woman and to deal with someone not calling me the wrong name,” the user further wrote. Since the revelation, Evangeline’s post has garnered immense social media attention, with users supporting her actions.

'Call her by the name of your brother's previous girlfriend'

“It's not that hard to call a person by the correct name. Unless she has some kind of medical condition, I too would feel she was being deliberately disrespectful, like she thought it was funny or something,” one person wrote. Whilst, the second user noted, “Your brother is acting in a really gross manner. He is ignoring your feelings because he can take you for granted while trying to protect the feelings of someone who mistreated you because his relationship with his gf is more fragile.”

“NTA but next time you see her call her the name of your brother's previous girlfriend,” someone jokingly wrote. “NTA at all and I agree with you, she was doing it on purpose. It's not hard to respect someone's choice on what they would prefer to be called. Your brother and her can f**k right off. Personally I would have ruined her name myself, calling her something else than what she told you her name was. But I'm petty like that,” a person added.
