Detective shows are a dime a dozen — almost every network out there features at least one detective crime show. Add to that the plethora of crime investigative shows that streaming platforms have on offer. So that leaves very few that actually stand out from the crowd.

Yet there is something terrifyingly unique about 'Wisting' that makes it stand out in the sea of detective series out there.

Coming to AMC's streaming service Sundance Now on December 18, 'Wisting' is based on the books by Jørn Lier Horst, a Norwegian author of crime fiction, who also served as a former Senior Investigating Officer at Vestfold Police district.

Shot in the picturesque, cinematic, stunning landscape of Larvik, Norway, which is also Horst's hometown, 'Wisting' follows homicide detective William Wisting (Sven Nordin).

In the series, he takes on one of the most challenging cases he has ever come across — a wanted American serial killer, who is the prime suspect in six murders and is preying innocent people on the streets of Norway.

As death comes a-knocking on Wisting's door — technically just three doors away from his door — he must begin investigating the mysterious death of a man whose body remained undiscovered for four months.

Soon the press finds more chilling stories to sell and the man's death remains a question mark for most. At the same time, Wisting's daughter Line Wisting (Thea Green Lundberg) is not one to simply give up on the case and gets on investigating his mysterious death.

But the law and the press clash somewhere in between and the father-daughter duo find themselves nursing a dilemma — how does one draw a line between their personal and professional lives?

Empathetic, meticulous and relentless, the only thing to escape Wisting in his hunt for Norway's most notorious criminals is a happy family life.

Soon, the case blows out of proportion and the FBI becomes involved in the investigations with FBI Special Agent Maggie Griffin (Carrie-Anne Moss) collaborating with Wisting to hunt the killer.

The case is particularly personal to Maggie Griffin — the notorious killer got away from her 20 years ago and she must now put him to rest in order to move on.

'Wisting' releases on December 18, on Sundance Now. New episodes will be added every Wednesday.
