Finding Captain Kirk's wallet: How 'Star Trek' actor William Shatner experienced the goodness of Gilroy
William Shatner and his travel saga have always been on the news. Shatner, who played Captain James Kirk on the 1960s television series 'Star Trek', became the oldest person to travel into space in 2021. Now, a new story about his visit to a fruit farm is becoming a buzz on the internet. It is following the reports that William Shatner received his lost wallet from here in California.
According to sources, on July 27, the 'Star Trek' star visited B&T Farms. It is said that Shatner’s wallet fell out of his pocket and into a bin of corn. When the wallet was discovered by staff, B&T Farms owner Gary Tognetti worked with Gilroy Police Officer Mark Tarasco to return it to its owner’s home in Beverly Hills. The 50-year-old Tognetti, who owns B& T Farms was not at the stand when the actor showed up. His 15-year-old daughter, Sophia Tognetti, sold an older man four bags of cold cherries and $2 worth of corn. Tognetti explained to a portal, adding that he asked his daughter and her co-worker what they recalled of their interaction with the actor. “They remembered him because he had a strange request that most people don’t need. He wanted two baskets of white cherries, four red, but he wanted them from the coolers because he said he had a long drive to Beverly Hills. He wanted them cold. He likes his cherries cold. And then he wanted $2 worth of corn.” Inside, Tognetti found a driver’s license, a Covid-19 vaccine card, as well as credit, ATM, and CVS cards— all with Shatner’s name on them.

Tognetti was determined to return the wallet to its rightful owner, hence he contacted his friend, Officer Mark Tarasco, at the Gilroy Police Department. "It took two hours and some teamwork to connect with Shatner's agent about the star's missing wallet. Officer Tarasco said celebrity status aside, the department made sure they did their due diligence," said Tognetti. Eventually, the police got in touch with Shatner’s agent and the wallet was sent via FedEx along with a few souvenirs for the actor from Tognetti and the police as well.
Shatner tweeted about this kind act on his official Twitter handle, stating, "I would like to thank Gary and Natalie of B&T Farms @TfarmsB for their extreme honesty in returning my lost wallet. They are obviously good citizens. I would also like to thank Officer Mark Tarasco and Sergeant John Ballard from the @GilroyPD My best, Bill". To which B&T Farms responded, "It was our pleasure Mr. Shatner. I grew up watching Star Trek with my dad. B and T Farms and GILROY Law Enforcement are friendly inhabitants of the Federation so hold up on hitting them with phasers. Live long and prosper sir Shatner! Give us a holler the next time you stop by!". “I’ve been in contact with his rep, or agent. They asked what we wanted to return his wallet,” Tognetti explained. “And I said all I want is a picture of him wearing my hat. I just want a picture of him wearing my hat. I just thought that’d be cool memorabilia for myself,” said Tognetti.
