‘Pluribus’ Season 2 finally gets exciting update from series creator
Fans have been closely following any movement on ‘Pluribus’ Season 2, especially after months of uncertainty surrounding the show’s production timeline. Since the first season was released, updates for season 2 have been relatively sparse, with Vince Gilligan previously noting that the writing process was taking longer than expected, which left audiences waiting for clearer signs of progress.
In a recent Deadline podcast, Gilligan revealed that the story for ‘Pluribus’ Season 2 has been fully broken down, with filming expected to begin ‘in a couple of months.’ The comments mark a change from his previous update, when the writers were still working through the season’s story and had not completed the scripts.
Gilligan has previously explained that his team develops the story one piece at a time instead of planning several seasons in advance. “We break story brick by brick, and we regularly write ourselves into narrative corners... then we spend months figuring out how to break back out of them,” he said. That writing process contributed to the gap between the first season and the start of production on Season 2. With the story now fully broken down, the focus can shift to filming and post-production.
Apple TV has not yet confirmed a release date for ‘Pluribus’ Season 2. The first season began filming in Albuquerque in February 2024 and premiered on November 7, 2025, meaning it took around 21 months to move from the start of production to its Apple TV debut. Considering the season 1 timeline, if filming begins around October 2026 and follows the same 21-month schedule, the outlet projects a possible July 2028 premiere. However, that date is speculation and has not been announced by Apple TV or Gilligan.
Production schedules can also change depending on the filming period, the amount of post-production work required, and Apple TV’s release plans.
For now, the confirmed update is that the writing stage for the second season has ended, and filming is approaching. A premiere date will likely become clearer once production is underway, but viewers may still have to wait more than a year after cameras begin rolling.
