Season 12 of 'Chicago Med' is all set to return on October 7. Not much is known about the new season. However, viewers can look forward to an appearance from a beloved 'Beverly Hills, 90210' alum. Gabrielle Carteris, known for her turn as Andrea in the Fox show, recently posted on Instagram that she will feature in the upcoming season of 'Chicago Med.' The post featured Carteris' selfie against a banner congratulating 'Chicago Med' on its 200th episode. For those unaware, the Dick Wolf show achieved the honor of completing 200 episodes in its recently concluded season. The episode, 'A Game of Inches,' featured the return of original characters Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto).

The actress captioned the post with, "Can't tell you more than that...yet!!!" Just four days after her announcement, the CBS show's showrunner, Allen MacDonald, revealed her role. In an interview with Give Me My Remote, MacDonald revealed that the actress would play an "overbearing mother" who arrives in Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as part of a wedding party. "She's basically the mother of the groom in this wedding scenario," the showrunner shared. MacDonald further added that the character has a complicated relationship with her son. The mother finds herself in the ED after a shooting at the nuptials. MacDonald had nothing but praise for the veteran actress. "She's awesome," he quipped. The show's characters often find themselves in the midst of medical emergencies that they are trained to solve; fans may speculate whether the wedding mayhem will involve any of the cast members. MacDonald shied away from answering the question.

The showrunner also revealed that Carteris features in the premiere episode of the series. He added that the episode will take place "almost entirely in the ED." "That was one of the conceptions for the episode—that we wouldn't actually go outside the ED at all, doing that," he said. "There are no exteriors. It's all in the hospital." In the same interview, MacDonald stated that fans may be in for some nostalgia, as one original character could return to the show. Can fans expect familiar faces like Ethan, Connor, April, or Maggie walking the halls of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center? Fans will have to wait until the fall for the answers. 'Chicago Med,' along with 'Chicago PD' and 'Chicago Fire,' will air every Wednesday in the fall, only on NBC. All episodes of 'Chicago Med' are currently streaming on Peacock.
