'Shrinking' gets exciting renewal update as Season 3 prepares to debut on Apple TV+

Ahead of the Season 3 premiere, big moves behind the scenes hint that Shrinking's future on Apple TV+ is far from finished

Good news travels fast, especially when it's the kind that leaves fans smiling. Apple TV clearly didn't feel like waiting around, because 'Shrinking' just locked in its future early. The dramedy has officially been renewed for Season 4, as reported by Variety. The announcement lands right before Season 3 even gets a chance to stretch its legs. The third season kicks off on January 28 on Apple TV. It'll open with a single episode before settling into a weekly rhythm every Wednesday, running straight through April 8, according to USA Today. 'Shrinking' has always lived in that tricky space between laughter and suffering. 

At the center of it all is Jason Segel, back once again as Jimmy. He's a therapist who is still figuring out how to function after losing his wife while also raising a teenage daughter. His solution? Honesty. Sometimes too much of it. Jimmy's habit of tossing the rulebook aside and saying exactly what’s on his mind to his patients continues to affect not just their lives but his own as well. Therapy sessions turn unpredictable, and suddenly everyone is dealing with consequences they didn't sign up for. That's the hook. And it works. But Segel isn't carrying the show alone.

Harrison Ford returns as Paul, the gruff senior therapist. Also, Jessica Williams is back as Gaby, handling her own mess. Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley round out the main cast. Season 3 also leans into familiar faces popping back up. Brett Goldstein, Damon Wayans Jr., Wendie Malick, and Cobie Smulders all return in guest roles. And then there are the new arrivals. Jeff Daniels joins the mix, along with Michael J. Fox, Candice Bergen, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. Since its debut in 2023, the show has steadily built a reputation as one of Apple TV's strongest comedy offerings. 

Award bodies noticed as well. Segel, Ford, Williams, and Urie have all earned Emmy nominations for their performances. Meanwhile, Segel and Ford also picked up Golden Globe nods. The series itself landed a nomination for best comedy series at the 2025 Emmy Awards. Apple TV, which offers a one-week free trial before moving to a $12.99 monthly subscription, has been selective about what it keeps around. That makes Shrinking's early Season 4 renewal feel even more telling. Apple TV's approach here feels clear. 

Keep the schedule tight, keep the audience hooked, and remove any anxiety about whether the story will get cut short. Furthermore, the show comes from a creative trio made up of Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein. They not only created the series from the ground up but also stayed involved behind the scenes as executive producers. Lawrence and Goldstein are both working under broader overall agreements with Warner Bros. Television, the studio backing the project. Lawrence's production company, Doozer Productions, plays a major role as well, with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer joining him on the executive side.
