LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO's 'Succession' is without a doubt one of the best television shows and deserves all of the praise it continues to receive from critics and viewers. The story of 'Succession' mainly revolves around the Roy family, who own Waystar RoyCo, a global media and entertainment conglomerate, and are continuing to fight for the business's supremacy amid the unpredictability of Logan Roy's health.

The dark comedy-family drama on HBO will wrap up its run with Season 4, and while the announcement of the show's end from showrunner and creator Jesse Armstrong disappointed fans, it also prompted some speculations regarding if the show could have a spinoff or not. Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy on the show, has finally spoken regarding the rumor of a potential spinoff.

Brian Cox puts an end to rumors about 'Succession' spinoffs

During an interview with Deadline, the Scottish actor was asked if he believes there's going to be a spinoff show for 'Succession,' to which he replied that there won't be any spinoffs for the show. Brian Cox added, “I mean, the only spinoff would be Greg (Logan’s gormless nephew, played by actor Nicholas Braun), but I think that would be pretty boring. I think that would be just same-old, same-old. I think we’ve covered it. I don’t think there are any spinoffs, really. I think it’s unnecessary.”

Showrunner Jesse Armstrong had spoken to The New Yorker back in February about why did he decide that season four would be the last, to which he said that “You know, there’s a promise in the title of “Succession.” I’ve never thought this could go on forever. The end has always been kind of present in my mind. From Season 2, I’ve been trying to think: Is it the next one, the one after that, or is it the one after that?

Jesse said he got together with a few of his fellow writers before they started the writing of Season 4, sort of said that maybe Season four could be the last and then they played out various scenarios. He explained that “we could do a couple of short seasons or two more seasons. Or we could go on for ages and turn the show into something rather different, and be a rangier, freewheeling kind of fun show, where there would be good weeks and bad weeks. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference.”

Cox reveals 'Succession' creator wishes to explore more territories

Cox added, “Jesse has reached a sort of plateau, where he has to decide, what do I want to do next? Where do I want to go next? What do I want to explore? Do I want to explore…you know, I’ve done corporate America, because virtually, that’s what he’s done. Maybe I want to look at something else back home in the UK, he may ask himself. Do you know what I mean? It’s the writer’s imperative that needs to move into another area, you know?”

HBO chief Casey Bloys also back in February spoke to Variety and shared that he does not think that there is a possibility of a spinoff for the show before adding “It doesn’t seem to me that there’s something in ‘Succession’ where you would go, ‘Let’s follow just this kid’ or whatever. It doesn’t seem like a natural thing to me. But if creator Jesse Armstrong said I want to do this, then I would follow Jesse’s lead.”

'Succession' is streaming on HBO.
