'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man' star Rebecca Ferguson hints at future of Cillian Murphy franchise
‘The Immortal Man’, the latest chapter of the ever-expanding world of ‘Peaky Blinders’, dropped globally on March 20 and didn’t exactly close the door behind it. A lot of the uncertainty, the good kind, comes from what Rebecca Ferguson had to say. She plays Kaulo Chiriklo in the film, a character who doesn’t just wander in for flavor but actually plants herself right in the middle of things. She’s tied to Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), as she portrays the sister of Zelda (also played by Ferguson), who was Shelby’s ex-lover. Speaking to Radio Times, Ferguson didn’t exactly spill secrets or map out a sequel. Instead, she took a slightly vague and very careful route.
When asked if she’s interested in returning to the franchise in the future, the actor answered, “I never say no.” It doesn’t confirm anything, yet it definitely doesn’t shut things down either. Moreover, Ferguson suggested, “I think that Kaulo was so essential for this film, but I don’t always feel that a character needs to have a continuation; we can be satisfied with not being satisfied.” However, Kaulo doesn’t feel like a one-and-done presence. By the time the film reaches its later moments, she’s not just lingering in the background. She’s influencing outcomes, especially when it comes to Duke Shelby, played by Barry Keoghan. He finds himself pulled between legacy and choice, power and hesitation, and somewhere in that mix, Kaulo becomes the voice he actually listens to.
In fact, the way things pan out, she ends up beside him as he steps into a leadership role within the Shelby line. However, as of now, nothing has been confirmed. No movie sequel, follow-up series, or spin-off has officially been announced. This either means plans are being carefully worked out behind the curtain or nothing is locked in yet. There’s also the bigger picture to consider. The ‘Peaky Blinders’ universe isn’t exactly small anymore, and decisions about what comes next aren’t made on a whim. Timing and strategy matter.
However, expectations are sky-high after the original show built such a loyal following over the years. So where does that leave things? Somewhere in the middle. Ferguson hasn’t signed off on returning, but she hasn’t walked away either. Her comments keep the door slightly open, just enough to keep speculation alive. Now the ball is in Netflix’s court. Whether this turns into a full-fledged continuation or remains a standalone chapter depends on what they decide to do next, and fans are eager for an update.
