Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) and Bunny Washington (Tobi Bamtefa) have been friends since Season 1. Despite being on opposite sides of the law - Mike as the unofficial mayor and Bunny as a gang leader - they recognize each other's influence and capabilities.

Can Mike McLusky betray Bunny Washington?

In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3, Episode 4, Mike met Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. Mike confronted Merle in order to get information about the bomb attack outside the Kingstown Police Department. Merle deliberately tried to act as if he didn't know anything.

Later in Episode 4, Mike met with Merle and informed him that he had secured a permanent transfer to Gen Pop. Merle, in turn, asked for Mike's promise that he would always answer his calls, regardless of the circumstances.

It seems Mike is dealing with Merle differently than the other gang leaders. Despite suspecting that Merle ordered the attack on the Kingstown Police Department, Mike allowed his transfer to Gen Pop, and above all, he has to pick up Merle's calls whenever he wants.

In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3, Episode 4, this conversation between Mike and Merle hints at Merle's hidden motives for building a relationship with Mike. This sets the stage for a significant request shown in the trailer for Season 3.

In the official series trailer for 'Mayor of Kingstown', Mike confronts Merle about his time in prison. Merle replies, "To hit Bunny Washington," leaving Mike and viewers alike pondering the true intentions behind Merle's actions. This cryptic statement suggests that Merle's transfer in the Kingstown prison wasn't merely incidental but part of a calculated plan targeting Bunny.

Bunny received significant protection from Mike but the Aryan Brotherhood faced numerous police crackdowns. This could be one of the reasons why Merle wants to target Bunny.

After being transferred to Gen Pop, Merle gains a strategic advantage that allows him to manipulate Mike into potentially harming Bunny. Merle's move to the general population puts him in close proximity to the prison's power dynamics and gives him direct access to the inmates, including those who are loyal to him or the Aryan Brotherhood.

By leveraging the promise Mike made to always answer his calls, Merle can influence Mike's actions from within the prison. However, considering how much Mike adores Bunny, it is unlikely that he would betray him willingly. 

Of course, while there may be disagreements or misunderstandings between Mike and Bunny, they have also faced challenges together, which has strengthened their relationship.

Could Mike McLusky and Bunny Washington drift apart?

If Bunny behaves recklessly or hides something from Mike, it could lead to them drifting apart. As the unofficial mayor of Kingstown, Mike is constantly navigating the treacherous waters of the criminal underworld and the volatile dynamics of the prison system.

Bunny, with his influence and connections, has been a crucial ally for Mike, providing him with valuable insights and assistance in maintaining order in Kingstown. However, if Bunny tries to hide important information from Mike, it could jeopardize their relationship and their ability to work together effectively.

In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 Episode 1, it was revealed that Bunny strategically placed a mole in Kingstown prison. Kevin Jackson (Denny Love) enrolled as the new prison guard and he kept Bunny in the loop about what's happening inside the prison. He never revealed this plan to Mike, indicating a significant shift in his behavior. In the upcoming episodes, Bunny may make decisions that go against Mike's wishes, causing friction between them. 

Bunny, despite being released from Anchor Bay in 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 2, seems unbothered by the potential dangers and spends his days selling drugs while sitting on a lawn chair. 

Some fans also believe that Mike and Bunny's friendship will be tested in Season 3. A fan wrote on Reddit, "Damn Bunny really is ambitious this time around. Clearly he tried to let Mike in on it but he didn’t even pay him the respect of validating it. Their “friendship” is clearly gonna be on the line this season."

Another fan expressed doubt over the friendship between Bunny and Mike. A fan wrote on X, "Mayor of Kingstown fans…do yall consider Bunny and Mike to be friends or it’s just business???"

Another fan wrote, "I believe Mike likes Bunny and understands his plight but he's shown he'll pop his top." 

While another fan said, "No way Bunny just ignoring the fact the dope is tainted. Whole damn block going down. Talking about "I'm not selling cookies Mike". N***a, yes the f**k you are. MayorOfKingstown." The fan was referring to a potential rift between Mike and Bunny when Mike confronted him about the sale of drugs in Episode 2.
