Gone too far? Why 'Mayor of Kingstown' needs to deal with its Robert problem in Season 3
KINGSTOWN, MICHIGAN: 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 is getting intense with each new episode, as the complex power dynamics in Kingstown continue to evolve.
In Season 3, Robert Sawyer (Hamish Allan-Headley), a police sergeant leading an elite team of Kingstown SWAT officers, is portrayed as increasingly violent, which sometimes can make certain scenes drag on.
Robert has crossed a line, showing a willingness to kill without hesitation, which could become problematic for both the Kingstown Police Department and Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner).
Let's explore why 'Mayor of Kingstown' needs to address Robert problem in Season 3.
Robert Sawyer's aggression towards Aryan Brotherhood raises concerns for Mike McLusky
In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3, Episode 1, titled 'Soldier's Heart', a bomb attack took place during the funeral ceremony of Mike's mother.
The police began to suspect who could be behind the attempted attack. Mike speculated that it could be someone from the Aryan Brotherhood. He interrogated one of the Aryan members to gather information about their safe house.
Mike wanted a raid that would not harm anyone and result in the arrest of the culprit behind the bomb attack. However, Robert took matters into his own hands by firing a bomb into the Aryan safe house, causing an immediate explosion.
When Mike arrived the next morning, he discovered over half a dozen dead bodies. As the episode progressed, Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), the leader of Aryan Brotherhood, became aware of the incident and grew furious. He was surrounded by admirers at the Millhaven Correctional Facility.
Later, a Black inmate was killed by an Aryan inmate inside the prison. This event raised the possibility that Merle might be seeking revenge on Mike, believing he ordered the attack, which could put Mike in danger.
Robert's actions to kill Aryan members have consequences that extend beyond himself. As the mayor, Mike is forced to deal with the fallout, unable to disregard any gang members in Kingstown.
The Aryan Brotherhood may target Mike directly, as he is responsible for considering the interests of all gang members in Kingstown. This places a heavy burden on Mike, as any action he takes or decision he makes can make him a prime target for the Aryan Brotherhood's retaliation.
In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3, Episode 2, violence continued to escalate as Big Hush (Jock McKissic) was found taking drugs in a secluded area of the prison. He tragically died after consuming drugs. This raised the question of who was responsible for the drug activity inside the prison.
Merle could have been behind the drug incident, aiming to disrupt the peace in the prison and cause problems for Mike. The deaths that occurred after the attack on the Aryan safehouse, which resulted in the deaths of many Aryan members, indicated that Merle was seeking revenge for the loss of his gang members.
Robert, who has always worked closely with Mike, is now making decisions that are causing harm to Mike and increasing his enemies in this season.
Violence escalates in 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 Episode 4 as Robert's team kills Aryan Brotherhood bomber
Violence escalates in 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 Episode 4 as Robert's team takes decisive action by killing the Aryan Brotherhood bomber. This act marks a significant shift in Robert's behavior, as he becomes more willing to resort to extreme measures to achieve his goals.
In Episode 3, a devastating bomb attack outside the Kingstown Police Department wreaked havoc, causing chaos and uncertainty in the city.
In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 Episode 4, the police identified two men affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood as responsible for the attack. When Robert's team breached the bomber's hideout, they quickly shot and killed him, even though he wasn't pointing his gun at them.
Robert's actions twice involved extreme violence, which could have been avoided with simple interrogation to extract information about who ordered the bomb attack.
If Robert and his team had opted for interrogation with pressure tactics, they might have been able to uncover clues. However, by resorting to killing, they lost the opportunity to extract potentially crucial information about Aryan Brotherhood and Merle.
Robert's extreme reactions are starting to affect Mike's work as mayor, creating challenges and complicating the situation in Kingstown. Robert's decision to kill the first bomber prevented Mike from determining whether Merle was behind the bombing or if it was a directive from the past leadership of the Aryan Brotherhood.
Could Robert become a problem for Mike McLusky in the future?
It seems that Robert is knowingly assisting the Aryan Brotherhood and creating difficulties for Mike. Why would he resort to killing when it was unnecessary? Perhaps because he is helping the Aryan Brotherhood in dismantling Mike.
However, the question remains: why would Robert choose to assist the Aryan Brotherhood? Is he seeking revenge against Mike, or does he have other motivations driving his actions? It is evident that Robert is not helping Mike in his efforts to maintain peace; instead, Robert's actions are causing harm and leading to more deaths.
Robert may be collaborating with Merle and Konstantin (Yorick van Wageningen) against Mike, perhaps out of jealousy. He might be trying to undermine Mike's authority and position in Kingstown. If Robert succeeds in removing Mike from power, he could potentially elevate his own status and influence in Kingstown.
It is crucial for Mike to remain vigilant and attentive to the actions of those around him, as he risks being ensnared by his own allies.
