Kerri Strug biopic scrapped after Millie Bobby Brown exits project and the reason is chaotic
There won't be any Millie Bobby Brown saltos or pirouettes, especially since she won't be playing legendary Olympian Kerri Strug. In a recent dampener of the news, the biopic on Strug with Brown, slated to play the athlete, has been scrapped. Per recent reports, the 'Stranger Things' star has exited the Netflix sports drama 'Perfect' following creative differences with producers. 'Perfect' was a story on Strug, who tried to overcome a devastating injury in order to compete for the gold in the 1996 Olympics. Gia Coppola was attached to direct the project, and later had Cate Shortland. John P. Lopez and Ronnie Sandahl were reportedly added as screenwriters for the project.
For those unaware, the now 48-year-old Strug was part of 'The Magnificent Seven,' whose iconic performance, despite an injured ankle, saw coach Béla Karolyi carrying her off the mat. It ended with the US clinch the gold in the team event. The announcement had garnered ample buzz, but the development hadn't taken off as expected. As for Brown, the actress is attached to more projects with the streamer. She will be leading and producing 'Enola Holmes 3' and a rom-com, 'Just Picture It', alongside Gabriel LaBelle. She will also be seen in the screen adaptation of 'Nineteen Steps', the British actress's debut novel from 2023. The actress is fresh off the success of 'Stranger Things' Season 5.
At the time of writing, there has been no official word from the streamer or Brown about 'Perfect'. It also remains to be seen if any other streaming network might pick up the project and add a series of new names behind and in front of the camera. For now, the news comes as unfortunate as Strug retired as a household name when it comes to gymnastics on a marquee stage, such as the Olympics.
