Cynthia Erivo skipped 2026 Golden Globes but her reason is so wild we’re not even mad
With glamour and glitter, Hollywood's biggest names gathered under one roof to celebrate the best of the entertainment industry at the Golden Globes 2026. However, 'Wicked: For Good' star Cynthia Erivo, who was also nominated for the Best Actress award category, was one of the few who was missing in the action and we exactly know why.
On Tuesday, January 6, it was announced that Erivo will not attend the Golden Globes 2026, as per Good Housekeeping. Reportedly, Erivo is skipping the award ceremony because she's starring in a one-woman West End production of 'Dracula,' where she will play 23 different characters each night, including Dracula, ahead of the show's Wednesday, February 4 opening at the Noel Coward Theatre, as per Variety.
Even though Erivo won't attend the Golden Globes to see if she takes home an award for 'Wicked: For Good,' she shared her pride with Variety. "It's very special," she said in December 2025, while adding, "I hope there are many more to come, not just for me, but for other Black women. I hope it's just the beginning. What a wonderful thing to do that and be a part of changing history a little bit and hopefully open up doors for someone else too."
Erivo also shared her nervous excitement about her ambitious 'Dracula' adaptation in a December Wonderland interview, "It feels really full circle. I haven't been back to the stage for such a long time. And I'm f*****g petrified. I really am. I'm very scared. But I'm also like, I don't know, is this sadistic of me? but I'm really excited about it as well. It's absolutely nonsensical and insane, and I kept trying to resist it for the longest time."
Erivo also grabbed major headlines when Ariana Grande spoke defending her after she was snubbed by SAG for her performance in 'Wicked: For Good.' She said, "The impact of his work and Cynthia's Elphaba is undeniable. Cynthia's performance is the most truthful, vulnerable, and fierce Elphaba we've seen, and it will be referenced and adored for generations. That can't be taken away. That's why I say every good thing that happens to me belongs to them, too. None of this exists in isolation. We informed each other every single day. Of course, it’s hard, they deserve all the flowers this world can grow," as per Variety.
Grande also addressed director Jon M Chu's DGA snub, "There aren't enough flowers on this earth for Jon M Chu. He's an extraordinary human being and director. This film will be watched for decades to come. He set out to move people, to challenge them, to make them better allies and better humans, and he succeeded.
