Whoopi Goldberg takes dig at Meghan Markle after she claimed to feel like ‘bimbo’ on ‘Deal or No Deal’
NEW YORK CITY, NY: Whoopi Goldberg did not seem to like Meghan Markle’s comments regarding her stint at ‘Deal or No Deal’, where she claimed to feel like a “bimbo”. Condemning the former actress, the 66-year-old television personality asserted that people taking part in the game show were just thinking about the money and nothing else.
During the October 19, 2022, episode of 'The View', Goldberg said, “OK. I just wanna say that on that show, you had a suitcase, and they wanted to know, is this the deal you want, or this is not the deal you want. I don't know that the people who are sitting there are thinking about you like that. They're thinking, 'I want the money.'"

MEGHAN MARKLE FELT OBJECTIFIED ON 'DEAL OR NO DEAL': Markle looked back at the beginning of her career in show business and admits being conflicted about her time as one of the briefcase-opening assistants on the game show — #TheView panel weighs in. https://t.co/cVclFZyKV0 pic.twitter.com/28ZhCR3DZN

She then went on to explain, “[Wheel of Fortune] hostess] Vanna White is always in something interesting and beautiful, and she's been doing this. The objectification might be coming from you and how you felt about how these women were being portrayed, and that's what you have to change - because we're performers. When you're a performer, you take the gig.”
The comedian also noted, “You take the gig. Sometimes, you're in a Bozo suit, sometimes you got a big nose, and this is just the way it is. We're not journalists. We're actors. We're trying to get to another place,” before adding, “I feel bad because I don't think that people were looking at these girls like this, I think people want the money. My point is if you see it, and that’s how you feel, just maybe you don't want to make the other women feel bad because maybe they're trying to make a living, too.”
Goldberg’s remarks came after the Duchess of Sussex spoke of her time working in ‘Deal or No Deal’ on her ‘Archetypes’ podcast. The mother-of-two had revealed, “I was really grateful as an auditioning actress to have a job. That could pay my bills. I had income, I was part of the Union, I had health insurance, it was. Here, I was being valued for something quite the opposite.”
The 41-year-old said, “There were times when I was on set at 'Deal or No Deal' and thinking back to my time working as an intern at the US Embassy in Argentina, Buenos Aires, and being in the motorcade with the secretary of treasury at the time and being valued specifically for my brain. Here, I was being valued for something quite the opposite.”
“I want my [daughter] Lili to want to be educated and want to be smart and to pride herself on those things. I ended up quitting the show. I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage. I didn't like feeling forced to be all looks. And little substance. And that's how it felt for me at the time being reduced to this specific archetype the word bimbo,” Meghan added.
Meanwhile, people have reacted to Goldberg’s comments on Meghan as a user tweeted, “The way people REFUSE to listen to what she's actually saying is astonishing. It is literally right there to listen to my god.”
The second user wrote, “The way @WhoopiGoldberg unknowingly repeating EXACTLY what Meghan said & how she felt. That it was all internal based on HER experience & how she felt overtime. She realized it wasn’t for her. It related to the topic. Either listen to the whole podcast & be quiet. It’s easy.”

“It's how SHE felt. Years from now, Whoopi may have a different opinion about her time on The View, which could be different from the other co-hosts. If her views on her time there is different from the co-hosts, does that invalidate Whoopi's experience?” the third user shared.
Another added, “I really love that Meghan’s podcast is opening up conversations about these stereotypes and we are hearing different opinions but would have appreciated if @WhoopiGoldberg had acknowledged that Meghan did say she was speaking about her own experience and she was grateful for it.”
