‘The Voice’ Season 29: Who went home tonight? Last-minute steal shakes up the teams
On the latest episode of ‘The Voice’ Season 29, the second half of the Top 20 stepped into the spotlight during Ohana Week, with coaches making calls that would shape the rest of the season. Ten contestants returned to perform on March 23, including Philmon Lee, Rae, Lucas Leon, Jordan McCullough, Abayomi, Madison Moon, Chris Tungseth, Ruby Rae, Julián Kalel, and Keyla Richardson. Each one aimed to secure a spot beyond the Battles and inch closer to the Knockouts. Sitting in those red chairs were Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend, each juggling their own strategies, instincts, and maybe a little gut feeling. And then there were the advisors, adding their own flavor to the mix.
Jennifer Hudson stepped in for Team Kelly, pulling double duty as Clarkson had to miss rehearsals following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. Meanwhile, Benji Madden worked closely with Team Adam, and Muni Long guided Team Legend. But here’s the kicker. There were no Saves this season. Instead, each coach holds just one Steal, and that alone changes the whole vibe. Night one already shook things up when Clarkson used her one and only Super Steal to keep Liv Ciara in the competition, making it clear she was not about to let talent slip away easily. Legend followed that energy by using his Steal to bring Moses G over from Team Adam, which left Levine as the only coach still holding onto that card heading into night two.
And he did not sit on it. Levine used his Steal to grab Mike Steele from Team Legend. But for many contestants, there was no safety net waiting. Several artists saw their journey come to an end during this round, including Aaron LaVigne, Ashley Marina, Aziz Guerra, Drew Russell, Julia Golden, Kendra Remedios, and Tia Durant. On the flip side, several performers secured their place moving forward. Abigaile Oakley, Houston Kelly, Jared Shoemaker, Jeremy Keith, Jonah Mayor, KJ Willis, Mike Steele (thanks to that timely Steal), Natasha Blaine, and Syd Millevoi all advanced.
Now that the judges have made their cuts and the two-night Battles wrapped up, control passed to the audience, who voted to determine which contestants secured spots in the Top 12. Voting, which used to rely on the show’s app, has now shifted entirely to other platforms. Fans cast their votes through the official website, text messages, and even social media comments, with a limit of ten votes per contestant on each platform before the early morning cutoff on March 24. All of this leads into the next big checkpoint, the ‘Songs of Faith’ episode airing March 30, which will reveal the Top 12 and officially launch the live shows.
