Netflix finally revives ‘Scooby-Doo’ with McKenna Grace and her role couldn’t be more perfect
‘Scooby-Doo’ is officially getting the live-action treatment again and things are finally moving. Back in April 2024, it was reported that a series based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon had secured a script-to-series commitment. By March 2025, Netflix made it official, handing the project an eight-episode order. Now there’s a major casting update: on February 17, Deadline revealed that Mckenna Grace will play young Daphne Blake, which will delve into the origins of the Mystery Inc. gang and their iconic Great Dane.
The actress shared the news on Instagram along with an image of her seemingly dressed as the character, making the casting a full-circle moment. "Oh my jeepers I can’t believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited," she wrote. The Netflix series is not her first portrayal of a young Daphne Blake, as she previously voiced the character in Tony Cervone's 2020 film 'Scoob!' She was also set to be part of 'Scoob! Holiday Haunt,' which was later axed. However, fans can now see her in action in the upcoming eight-episode series.
The untitled 'Scooby-Doo' series is touted as a modern reimagining of the mystery-solving teenagers and their very special Great Dane. The show's official synopsis reads, "During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets."

The Netflix series is not the first live-action 'Scooby-Doo' project to hit the screens. The 'Scooby-Doo' film, starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, Matthew Lillard, and Neil Fanning (voicing Scooby), was released in 2002. Its sequel, 'Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed,' hit theaters in 2004, and the live-action TV film, 'Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins' and its sequel, 'Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster' was released in 2009 and 2010, respectively. It starred Nick Palatas, Kate Melton, Hayley Kiyoko, Robbie Amell, and Frank Welker.
