LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Michelle Williams, Heath Ledger's ex-girlfriend, has reportedly sought to gain control of the late star's biopic. The 42-year-old actress was reportedly adamant to have Busy Phillipps, 43, portray her if an autobiographical movie was made on the 'Brokeback Mountain' star. She also reportedly wants any film about the actor to center on their love story and the joyful childhood of their daughter Matilda, who is now 17.

According to Woman's Day, when it came to trying to develop a movie about Ledger's life, a source close to Williams warned, "Movie execs better be careful what they wish for," as she was reportedly quite protective of his legacy. “(Michelle) is very protective and would want full control over Heath's story and she won't budge on things they probably won’t like – for example, casting Busy,” sources said. As per PEOPLE, Williams was strongly in favor of Philipps playing her in a film as the 42-year-old actress claimed, "She (Busy) knows me better than anyone."

Michelle Williams engaged to 'Fosse/Verdon' director Thomas Kail and expecting their first child together

After dating for less than a year, Ledger and Williams revealed they were expecting a daughter. In October 2005, the couple had their only child, Matilda. Ledger, who was best known for portraying the Joker in ‘The Dark Knight', died on January 22, 2008, at the age of 28 in a New York City apartment after unintentionally overdosing on a combination of drugs after months of exhausting physical and mental preparation for his role.

According to Daily Mail, the actor was reportedly juggling too many projects, including his role in 'The Dark Knight', on very little sleep, and he started relying on different prescription medication concoctions to calm his mind. Just two months before his death at the age of 28, he said in an interview with The New York Times in November, “I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” He reportedly took a fatal combination of six pills, including two different opioids, two different anti-anxiety medications and two different sleep aids.

Williams is now married to theatre director Thomas Kail, 44. After getting engaged in December 2019, the couple privately wed in a small ceremony in March 2020. The wedding came after the Oscar nominee was expecting the couple's first child, Hart, who was born in June 2020. On November 1, Williams and the 'Hamilton' director welcomed their second child together.
