Katie Moon's Olympic Gold and Beyond
Katie Moon won the Olympic pole vault gold medal on her debut in 2020. After a challenging start, clearing her opening height of 4.50m on her third attempt, she secured gold with a vault of 4.90m. She then made subsequent attempts at 4.95m and 5.01m.
A two-time world champion (2022, 2023), Moon tied for first with Nina Kennedy in 2023 after both failed to clear 4.95m on three attempts, marking a historic moment as they chose to share the title. Moon also holds two World Indoor Championships medals, earning silver with a jump of 4.75m in 2022 and bronze in 2023.
In 2023, she clinched her first Diamond Trophy with a meeting record of 4.86m at the Prefontaine Classic, after a jump-off with Tina Sutej. Despite her 2020 Olympic triumph, 2022 was challenging for Moon as she grappled with post-Olympic blues.
