Who is Jojo Siwa's partner on ‘DWTS’? 'Dance Moms' star to make history
Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa who came out as part of the LGBTQ community, earlier this year, is all set to make history as the first 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant to pair up with a same-sex partner, ABC made the announcement on social media promoting the show’s 30th season.
"I am so excited to be a part of ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ Season 30, and to be dancing with a girl," Siwa, 18, said in the promo clip. "I think it’s so cool." The famous American show will be following in the footsteps of its UK equivalent, 'Strictly Come Dancing', which, in 2020, allowed Olympic boxer Nicola Adams to be paired with a woman at her request.

JoJo’s partner will be announced during the show’s season premiere. The show's official handle tweeted a video of Siwa and wrote, "Bring on the sequins and the sparkles. We’re SIWA excited about this! #DWTS@itsjojosiwa." Siwa said she's proud that her choice to dance with a female "breaks a wall that has never been broken down before" and tells younger people you can "dance with who you want to dance with." "There [are] a lot of barriers that we're going to have to break through," she said. "Who leads? How do you dress? What shoes do you wear? But I think it's all something that I'm looking forward to."

Siwa explained that she'd received an email with the title of the show in the subject line, and she'd immediately replied yes. She didn't even read what it said at first, but then she saw that there was a question: "JoJo, would you like to be partnered with a girl or with a boy?" She said that she replied to the e-mail immediately that she wanted to have a female partner. "It would be so incredible, it would mean so much to me and I think so much to a lot of people around the world — if I partnered with another female," Siwa said. "So right away, it wasn't a question."
"You're making history, JoJo," Tyra Banks, the show's host, told Siwa on Thursday, August 26 at a Television Critics Association event. "This is history."
Siwa came out as part of the LGBTQ community in January 2021 but has been careful not to label herself too specifically. "It’s like, I want to figure it out. I like ‘queer,’ she told People in April. "Technically, I would say that I am pansexual because that’s how I have always been my whole life … just like, my human is my human." The 'Dance Moms' alum later opened up to Demi Lovato who came out as non-binary in May about her journey, telling the singer they were largely responsible for Siwa’s own "gay awakening."
Siwa and her girlfriend, Kylie Prew, have been spotted by the paparazzi many times, enjoying various dates since they got together. They’ve been dating just short of seven months.
"I think Lindsay [Arnold] is awesome. Jenna [Johnson] is incredible. Britt [Stewart] is amazing," Siwa said. "I think if I got one of those three I would just be so happy. I think their choreography is amazing," Siwa said. The 13 other "star" cast members will be announced Wednesday, September 8 on 'Good Morning America'.
