SENTINEL, OKLAHOMA: Copan Combs, a contestant on Netflix’s ‘Surviving Paradise,’ works as a Senior Admissions Counselor at Oklahoma State University. Combs is notably recognized for his fondness for an orange blazer, which he is set to showcase on the Netflix show.
Hailing from Sentinel and presently residing in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Combs attended Sentinel High School and pursued his studies at Oklahoma State University. He acquired his degree in marketing and sports management. However, after interning with OSU Athletics, he realized he wasn't meant to be in the background.
He wanted to be out meeting people and telling them about OSU, and he joined the university as an admissions counselor. He embraces a youthful, energetic personality and recently styled his hair into mullets. Combs shares photos and videos from sports events at OSU on his social media. Additionally, he showcases his passion for fitness by sharing workout videos from the gym.
Copan Combs describes his role extends beyond recruitment
Copan Combs believes that his job as an admissions counselor extends beyond recruitment. He also helps parents understand scholarships and financial aid options and answers questions they might have about OSU or the college selection process.
Combs has a unique position of getting to work in the territory he grew up in. He belongs to a town of about 900 southeast of Elk City and understands how important it is for students in those small towns to see someone from any college.
During an event at OSU, Combs said, “When I was growing up, bigger high schools had other colleges come up, but we didn’t really have anybody from any university come out there.”
Combs often visits high schools in his territory, southwest Oklahoma and North Texas, to inform them about the colleges. In 2022, he visited 36 high schools, worked on 18 college fairs, and organized seven on-campus events.
